I absolutely loved this film! (by marie_dit) |
I normally read the IMDb score for movies before watching them but I decided to give this one a shot based off the description alone i have a penchant for movies based on the themes of criminology and serial killers instantly I became engulfed in the storyline and the backstory of the main character, it emotionally took me through a journey and i was stuck to the screen the entire time. I genuinely think this was one of the best movies I've seen in 2017! It was like a mash up of two of my favourite movies the Green Mile and Shawshank redemption! Worth watching!! |
Great story and movie, come open mind and get the true message! (by mellymel-40016) |
I am sick of these "theatrical" reviews. This movie is a true in sight of human nature makes a criminal, the powerful message here is the story from boy to death row what made this man a criminal. With that being said, if your intelligent enough to see the true message than I am open to discuss whether it is a great message or not story. However, if your into blockbuster movies that service the mass follower the leader game play, than don't bother. Nor would I impose on the Ebert style of viewing a movie because his power of suggestion for what you should like pov then don't <more> |
Flagrant Starting, Fervent ending. (by ptyagi-13755) |
From a flagrant starting to the fervent climax, this masterpiece travels a trajectory replete with gorier tales of crimes and tell us about the gnarly issue of deliverane of justice in a violent society. |
All together a Brave and compelling effort. (by ausbt) |
Giving it 9 'cause I think it looks better. The developing back story is compelling and very believable. The violence not over gratuitous, actually below what I was expecting, but excellently screenplay directed. Also, it doesn't preach even though the academics play as preachy characters, you're still left with a unique sense of your own judgement, unique in relation to how this particular movie gives you that. The lecture or the message is more played out in the clever characterised background environments. It does not force you to judge people but suggests the modern culture <more> |
Why the poor reviews! (by wildwitchca) |
I just watched this on Netflix and never heard of it before. It was a great story and the characters were strong! My ONLY complaint - blonde women do NOT have black eyebrows. Other than that - it was very well acted! Imagine being in this man's shoes...would you do that same? I would. |
a success for the genre (by joncochino) |
If you love criminal psychology films, it's a fine example. American Violence does a great job of presenting two sides of a topic not discussed nearly enough in media, film, etc... Denise Richards makes a very believable social behavioral doctor, and adds a vulnerability, that forces the audience to care for and understand her viewpoint and the shifts it takes along the way. i'd re-watch on a rainy day . |
A hidden gem (by sweetkandicampbell) |
Honestly the title and synopsis makes you think the movie will bbe one way but it turns out being completely different. This is NO movie like Hannibal or other serial killer movies where The villain is just sick and twisted...: this movie selves into how the killer's life circumstances set the stage for his murders and you can't help but to feel empathetic towards the killer..... lovely twist would watch it again... lot of psychological themes in this movie that would be good to discuss in a psychology class |
