Intentionally Cheesy & Great Fun (by tlgardinerbr) |
This is a really fun film that never takes itself seriously. It's obvious that everyone in this film is having a blast and it translates well to audience enjoyment. If you're looking for a funny movie that pays homage to the old-time monster films, you'd be hard pressed to find a better choice. Mike Mendez has done a great job and I hope he makes more just like this. The leads in this film are all hilarious and were probably helped by simply having a good time making this movie. Mike Mendez has hit one out of the park with "Big Ass Spider" and I'm glad I could be <more> |
Awesome movie (by lillian_plascencia) |
Loved this movie, it was hilarious and fun to watch with children around. Just loved the role that was played by Lombardo Boyar as security Jose and the exterminator Alex Greg Grunberg , which both made a great team specially Jose Lombardo Boyar was hilarious through out the whole movie. Truly liked the filming which was in the surrounding areas of the City of Los Angeles. I actually rented this movie six times before I purchased it several times as well to give away to friends and siblings.. We definitely have to give credit to the the director Mike Mendez and the producers of this <more> |
Great Movie (by boblevoy) |
My wife and I watched this movie Big Ass Spider last night Directed by Mike Mendez and written by Gregory Gieras. It had a great cast including Ray Wise, Greg Grunberg, Lin Shaye, Patrick Bauchau, Clare Kramer and many more. This movie was well written, well directed and great effects. We love spider movies and some we have seen was rather shoddy and looked like it was done with a home video camera. This movie is different. This one was very well filmed. We laughed all the way through this movie. I am looking forward to any other films Mike has done. I have seen a couple of his films in the <more> |
Campy fun with a big ass spider.. (by rockenkay) |
The plot was an old one BUT they did a great job of delivering up the gags with some fun comedic acting and cleverly disguised, old but funny lines... I enjoyed myself and this has become one of my new favorite campy movies.. Lomabardo Boyar Jose, the sidekick was hysterical and I found myself in big ass belly laughs almost every time he was on the screen. I've only seen him play serious roles before and was surprised at how good he is with comedy... If you're afraid of spiders, this one'll give you nightmares and the whole set up is incredibly creepy.. The next time I see a <more> |
Awesome (by snakes3992) |
This movie is f***ing awesome, the premise about an exterminator faces a big giant mutant spider is pretty cool. Alex the exterminator is awesome, he's funny, he knows a lot about facing bugs, him a facing a giant spider is pretty bad ass, but the spider he is facing is not normal, it's a mutant spider. The movie also make fun of clichés that happen in every creature flick, so yeah it knows it doesn't take it self seriously, over all this movie is awesome, and it's one of favorite movies of all time, so I do recommend you see this movie, the problem I have with it's a <more> |
'SHARKNADO' ain't got nothing on this! (by Hellmant) |
'BIG ASS SPIDER!': Four and a Half Stars Out of Five If Syfy network movies were this good I would love the Syfy network but I loath most of their films ! This science fiction B movie, or Z movie as some people like to call them which are films with lower qualities than B or C movies , is about a giant alien spider wreaking havoc on Los Angeles. It focuses on an exterminator and a hospital security guard who team up to try and stop it. It was directed by Mike Mendez who also directed the 2006 After Dark Horrorfest film 'THE GRAVEDANCERS' and written by Gregory Gieras <more> |
everything works (by trashgang) |
Just sit back and enjoy. Don't think, leave your brain in the cupboard and you will have your laughs now and then. This science-fiction comedy works due a few things. We do have an actually story and the acting is above mediocre. Not only that, there are serious parts involved, the army going out to destroy the spider and the funny part, a simple exterminator out to save the world with the help of his Mexican friend. The Mexican and the American alone works but both combined to rescue the world makes it even funnier. And of course when the Mexican is out for help you will have a great <more> |
So much better then you'd think. (by thebat37) |
as i stated this flick was so much better then anticipated. if you've come this far, to the reviews, the title has obviously hooked you like it did me. I love big ass spider movies and this one was great. not only just for ridiculous giant spiderness but effects were way better then i thought they'd be. the acting was hilarious, so many jokes. i was quite literally laughing out loud for the whole movie. the corny jokes and buddy buddy between Alex and Jose was great. and on top of all that it had some very funny gore scenes. it seems like they had a lot of fun making the movie, which <more> |
Surprisingly fun movie with lots of subtle jokes (by siderite) |
I had some expectations of this movie, based on the ridiculous title. It would have been low budget, formulaic, over the top, obvious. It was kind of like that, but also with a subtlety that was both incredibly funny and in good taste. The plot is simple: from Heroes to ... bug exterminator, Greg Grunberg is at the bottom of the barrel. He has no money, no girlfriend and his only quality is an imagined one: he can understand how bugs and vermin think. Suddenly he gets the chance to defeat a mutant spider, kiss the girl and get back to hero status. The references, the jokes, the script itself <more> |
