4.8 overall rating??? makes no sense... (by jasonrenzi) |
look... i really don't understand you people.... nor do i understand what exactly it is you think you need to get out of a cinematic experience... this is a romantic comedy...taken within the context of this genre, i really can't see how it could have been much better...the cast was superb, the script was derivative but totally entertaining and highly amusing, the directing was very much above average... i just don't get it.... i simply can't see how a film of this type could be markedly improved upon... lighten up and try to enjoy a film for what it is...this movie will break <more> |
A real pleasant surprise! (by Buff2001) |
I just could not see McConaughey and Parker together in a romantic situation. I could not even imagine McConaughey in a comic role and did not believe I could picture Parker as anybody but Carrie, or maybe Annie! What a surprise! I was completely swept up in their characters and this fast moving, well written, romantic comedy. They, and all of the rather large supporting cast were outstanding. This is a must see if only to see Terry Bradshaw as you have never seen him before. I am watching arguably the best NFL quarterback ever, making me forget that completely. Kathy Bates turns in a <more> |
Critics (by the_surf_guru) |
I, as a Film Student, think the critics were way off in their assessment of this movie. I enjoyed it. The star talent was dead on; the comical witty-ness of it was fantastic, and all around a good movie. I think those critics who gave this movie need to get off of their high horses, and sit down and watch a movie with the common people, instead of their own private viewings and see what a REAL crowd thinks of it. In my book, I didn't hear a bad comment about the movie as I walked out of the theater, and while the movie was playing, all I heard were laughs, OHHH's, and agreement with <more> |
Not at all like the trailer (by lemmmary) |
The trailer was boring and I was sure I didn't want to see the movie. I am also not a big fan of Matt or Sarah. Luckily for me there was nothing "good" to see for date night out with the wife. So we decided to see "Failure to Launch". It was possibly the funniest movie so far this year. Great characters, great story, and loads of bust out laughing situations. Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates are crazy/funny and actually parents I would love to have. The rest of the cast, especially the character of Kit, are perfect for the parts played and extremely funny. This is just <more> |
A romantic fun movie (by scullywully1) |
I agree this won't win any major awards or impress the critics. I went expecting a relaxing time and got exactly what I was looking for. I laughed, giggled, and smiled while watching this movie and enjoyed hearing the laughter from those around me in the theater. This, in my opinion, is what makes a good comic film, romantic or otherwise. Kathy Bates and Zooey Deschanel performances were fantastic. Terry Bradshaw was a delightful addition.Enjoy this movie for what it is and relax and laugh. The critics just don't get romantic comic movies and probably never will! |
Hilarious (by QueenBee_523) |
I thought that this movie was very funny. Although, you should see this only if you are looking for humor, not for plot. Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker were amazing together! Zooey Deschanel was brilliant as Sarah Jessica Parker's best friend, she was so witty and hilariously sarcastic. McConaughey's best friends in the movie were very funny as well as believable. The entire theater was shaking. There were elderly people, moms, dads, teens, and preteens there to see the movie and it was obvious to me that all were enjoying this incredible film. It was nice to have a <more> |
A good time! (by liza1727) |
Being a huge SJP and Matthew fan- I of course went to see the movie. I was shocked and really pleased to see how much camera time Zooey Deschanel got. She was my favorite character in the movie- by far. I wasn't expecting that at all. Her facial expressions and deep voice were perfect for the quirky character she played. So now I am a huge fan of her's. Back to the movie. The plot was a little predictable duh ,but was truly a pleasurable one. I didn't go to the movie to be deeply moved- but I did go to see a great light-hearted film with an amazing cast. And I had success. I love <more> |
Light and Frothy (by phillipstephenso) |
You would think with this all-star cast of dramatic actors and actresses, including the formidable Kathy Bates and Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker, that this film would take on some weight. Instead, the film is very light and frothy and a cute, if quirky, farce about Matthew as a 35 year old who does not want to leave his nice mother and father, including Terry Bradshaw, the legendary Hall of Fame quarterback. Matthew, as usual, generously shares views of the fine curves of his shirtless body. Also easy on the eyes are his nice looking buddies, who provide him with a sort of <more> |
Mom and Dad try to get their son to move out by hiring a girlfriend (by dmalkire) |
This was a very funny movie. It's about a 35 year old played by Matthew McConaughey who still lives at home with his parents. His parents hire Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays a counselor of sorts, to date him so he'll want to move out. What starts out as a job soon develops into love until one of McConaughey's pals catches Parker with another client. This is very similar to "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Hitch". Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates do OK as McConaughey's parents, but the real star here is Zooey Deschanel. She deserves a best supporting <more> |
