Strange music from Pat Morita (by karastjepan) |
Yes, it's a cheesy film, but it's marvelous and mysterious in its own way. Toward the end when Pat Morita is whistling a tune, the melody is THE INTERNATIONALE, anthem of international Communism. No explanation for this is offered, nor does one seem obvious. It's hard to imagine adding much new to the remaking of YOJIMBO with Van Damme in place of Eastwood or Mifune, though motorcycles and exploding fuel tanks can't hurt. Not every action film can match the classics. But this one beats the pants off ROADHOUSE with Patrick Swayze, with a similar landscape. Such is, at least, my <more> |
Serves to be one of JCVD's best films! (by videofreak2002) |
"Desert Heat" is JCVD's second direct-to-video film his first was "Legionnaire" . After watching this, I just realized this isn't just your typical action film. This movie is action filled with comedy with costars like Pat Morita Mr. Miyagi from "The Karate Kid," Vincent Schiavelli, and Bill Erwin . It's just a good mix. Now, I'm a big fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme and I love all of his films including his big duds and failures like "Street Fighter," "Double Team," Maximum Risk," "Knock Off," etc. but, this <more> |
My goodness! (by Unisol_GR44) |
Possible plot line spoiling I found this movie totally entertaining, isn't that what a movie is all about. I don't know how so many of you can be so critical, If you were looking for saving private ryan and you hate van damme, why are you renting/ watching a van damme movie for in the first place? And if you are whining about the low production value and lack of choreographed fight scenes, why should he rehash those skills that we all should know by now he has. I think the movie is very effective at a low cost, and keeps him working, what is he suppose to do get a job that is REALLY <more> |
I got something better than a .45 (by nogodnomasters) |
POSSIBLE PLOT SPOILERS This is a comedy-action film with an all-star "B" cast and music by Oscar winner Bill Conti. Eddie Lomax is delivering an Old Indian motorcycle to "old Indian" Danny Trejo His joke, not mine . He stops in the middle of the desert and further dehydrates with some alcohol which leads to some bullies to take his bike and leave him for dead. Trejo nurses him back to health and Eddie Jean-Claude Van Damme vows revenge to get the bike back, save the terrorized town, and break up the biker/meth dealers....and stop the aliens...shhhh! I loved the humor of <more> |
A remake of "Yojimbo"? Not "For a Fistfull of Dollars"? (by Just_Some_Guy) |
Anyway, you shouldn't compare this movie to either of the above. Although I haven't seen Yojimbo pronounced Yo-Jimbo by one of the characters , but I'm sure it won't be fair to all of them. This movie is an action movie, with Van Damme as the good guy, but it's not very serious. Sure, there are explosions and guns and kicks and a completely unnecessary sex scene and all that, but it seems like there are quite a lot comic relief moments and characters. Pat Morita and Bill Erwin reminded me of Statler and Waldorf from The Muppets, for one.Van Damme plays an American, which <more> |
Underrated, funny, easily digested (by Troed) |
I gave this movie an 8. I liked it. van Damme is not taking himself too seriously, and often in the movie you see that none of the characters really do. The humour adds a lot to this flick, and I found myself laughing more than once. Not often that happens in a van Damme movie : If you're looking for something easily swallowed to fill your evening, go see this movie. The plot might not be revolutionary, but then, no movies are. |
A lot of fun, and good entertainment (by jerry758) |
This is not Shakespeare, and there is a lot of mindless violence and a script apparently written by committee. But Van Damme seems to be having fun, the ever-present humor lightens the tone and makes the whole thing fun, and there are echoes of Schwartzenegger at his best before he started taking himself too seriously in Van Damme's performance. The older folk are all experienced character actors, and they too seem to be having fun spoofing the genre. It is not a great movie, and is instantly forgettable, but we really enjoyed watching it and would certainly recommend it in place of <more> |
