Split Second, all it takes to like this film. (by spanky_boz) |
This is one of those films you see on ITV at 2.20am Thursday morning. Its consigned to forever be overlooked, stepped on and pushed away. But it's also a b-movie of extraordinary magnitude. A mix of horror, action, breasts Kim Cattral's, not Rutger Hauer's! and witty one liners. It never seeks to be better than it is, and in doing so is all the better for it.With a name like Dick Durkin in the credits, you know you're in for a treat. True, the ending crumbles somewhat kinda like monty python + holy grail i thought , but the rest of the film is low budget gold. The use of <more> |
Geez, Erewhon.... (by NeuroMortis) |
Let's face it: Hauer enjoys it. It's not about wasting his talent, it's about earning money doing fun stuff that people will watch over and over again through the years when it shows up on SciFi or Spike because it's tongue-in-cheek fare that makes no bones about being anything deeper or more meaningful than an alien's irrational fear of toilet paper. Not everyone is going to watch 'Remains of the Day' at 2AM. There's a time for everything--for intellectual gratification, for aesthetic stimulation--and for just plain blowing the snot out of all things alien and <more> |
Rutger Hauer rocks!!! (by sushi_with_extra_rice) |
Rutger Hauer rocks!!! As he always does. Now I may be a bit biased as I am a huge fan of the mans work. Has been ever since Bladerunner. This movie has an extreemly thin plot, campy acting, moody gritty alleys, a big scary monster and big cool guns. Hauer is awesome in his leather coat, cigar, sunglasses and with the biggest baddest handgun ever. This movie rocks. Watch it! |
You people make me laugh (by neptune_metal_reviews) |
The nerve of some of you. "I was expecting a Hollywood masterpiece" WHAT?? It's a Rutger Hauer movie you mindless spawns of ignorance! For what it was, It was a damn good film. Anyone with a brain knows before buying it, renting it, that it it ain't Oscar material folks. It's a low budget sci-fi that happens to be pretty damn good. I thought the alien was good, and not cheesy or hokie looking, the idea of the flooding and constant raining was pretty clever, and the time frame was believable to me. Lighten up losers. This "B flick" blows away a lot of "A <more> |
Another Awesome Rutger Hauer SciFi (by aquaalexhart) |
Rutger Hauer plays a slightly psychotic cop in a futuristic London facing a supernatural threat. Awesome snappy dialogue and great acting makes this b-grade sci-fi rise above a lot of big budget a-grade movies. The setting for this movie is very dark similar to Blade Runner and Rutger Hauer delivers another great performance. A few interesting actors in this movie that you will recognise from well-known British movies and American series. After Blade Runner and Lady Hawk this is my favourite Rutger Hauer movie, and one of my favourite sci-fi horrors. This movie has everything to be a true cult <more> |
yes, there are enough clichés here, but i still love this one (by atanas_n1-1) |
Hauer is a great antihero, the mood is dark and hopeless, the monster is quite funny, and there are enough jokes and enough tension to keep you fascinated also nice is that no one cares to exactly explain what or who that monster is, providing the movie with a bit of mysterythis movie works more like alien or seven, or maybe even blade runner - on the psychological level, do not expect it to be action loaded, but enjoy the darkness and tension insidea great plus point for the movie is that they didn't make a sequel. i guess they had no money for it, but still great - most movies do not <more> |
A well done action/horror film. (by Peach-2) |
Split Second was a blast to watch. This movie has all the great elements of action and horror, with a bit of the absurd to border on a cult film. Rutger Hauer is very good in this kind of film. The film is tight and there aren't alot of wasted frames. I enjoyed the characteristics of Hauer's Stone character. Watching Rutger Hauer take on a monster and scarf down some chocolate donuts was very cool. The monster itself was a very imaginitive creation and I liked that it attacked so quickly. Split Second is a great film for a rainy day or a late night feature. |
The Rutger Hauer Show (by monstermonkeyhead) |
Yes, it's the Rutger Hauer show all the way! He really pours on the charisma and hams it up. He is really the main reason to see this. I enjoyed the background details of this movie with all the anti-rat posters and the "PMS Shooting Range" Ha! Ha! . The cheese value is high here, so you kinda have to go with the silliness of this movie a bit. The only thing that bugged me was the monster. Where did it come from? What made it? Why was it into occult scrawling? It was a bit too much for me to swallow. I got the feeling that some of the movie ended up being edited out. Or <more> |
Split Second (by dmj_jacobyte) |
I enjoyed 'Split Second' very much. A good mixture of thriller, drama and light comedy. Although I couldn't help thinking that certain scenes were unintentionally funny - 'the scene where Harley Stone hyper ventilates and when he is being fired at in his apartment and he dives over the television'. Not forgetting Stone's diet of coffee & chocolate and how he takes the cup out of the sink with old coffee and a cigarette end in it and casually drinks it Great Stuff! The ending was a bit abrupt though; the fight with the beast was short-lived - never got much of a <more> |
