Great Apocalyptic Movie! (by lilly_white_lillith) |
This movie had it all. There was great acting by Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Zegers, sorry to say mediocre from Bill Paxton. I liked that after the slow beginning, the movie quickly went into high adrenaline-mode with tons of action and chase scenes. Even horror aficionados should enjoy this movie. Honestly, this was one of the very few movies I've watched recently on DVD or even at the movies that I can say I'd watch again! You know how previews usually show you all the best parts of a movie, well not in this case. The plot-line was well thought out, there was vivid imagery as well. <more> |
Exactly what I wanted, and then a little bit more. (by theinconvenientcomedian) |
I would usually come away from a movie like this with a mountain of criticism. Not this time. There were way more things I liked about this movie than disliked. The movie is fast paced, the disasters are believable, far fetched, but that's why we love sci-fi The protagonists weren't pathetic and useless, the threats were portrayed well and actually seemed dangerous, and just in general, it seemed to be more realistic than other movies like it.Sure, it has predictable character archetypes and story elements, but those are ingredients to good story telling. All in all, well done, well <more> |
Fun throwback B-movie (by mpetrillo2) |
If you have an affinity for movies like The Warriors, Mad Max, Carpenter's The Thing, Craven's The Hills Have Eyes, you will be game for this fun b-movie. Imaginative and well-paced. Don't expect a 100 million dollar special-effects extravaganza with every little detail and character fleshed out to the extreme. That's not what these type of movies are for. The Colony is an economically told, well written, nicely shot, low-budget affair with engaging performances from all. You'll be surprised and impressed with how much the filmmakers accomplished with less than 20 million <more> |
Better than you might think (by 851222) |
Greetings from Lithuania. This film was a pleasant surprise. Nothing new, nothing extraordinary, just plain and simply good low key Sci-Fi thriller. I love these kind of movies. Laurence Fishburne is a real presence in here, much better than in blockbusters. And the main bad guy, with no name, no story, no background - just a pure evil makes a very good villain presence. Bill Paxton was, well lets just say not in his best form. The main hero was a compelling one.If you like these Sci-Fi flicks, bloody, scary at the moments than "The Colony" is not to be missed one. |
A great movie (by david-palmqvist) |
I didn't know what to expect when I started watching, the movie had such low rating. To me this movie was really good, it hold all the good aspects for a post apocalyptic movies think it's really unfair to rate it so low as 5-6 stars when other movies that are total crap gets 8-9. It's exciting and you wonder what's gonna happen next. I'm not a movie critic nor a film expert, but for me this was a pleasure to watch. The actors play their roles well, it's feels like this is how it would be if this disaster happened. I can't say that I wasn't a little bummed at <more> |
Not that Bad as one of Horror Movies! Human is the Food (by supbericw) |
Not much blood in the movie, but it is very cold when watch it in winter. Survival is the permission to kill or eat. Audience will learn skills from the winter Apocalypse. Personally, I enjoy to watch this movie, not the killing part, but the survival part. By the way, the winter CG is not that great, but I get it. unless the story is a disaster movie type. |
Actually a 7.5/10, but I'll give it an 8 since it's a B-movie done well (by tetraslash) |
First off, since IMDb doesn't allow half-ratings and the current IMDb average is way below what the movie's truly worth, I decided to up my rating to an 8. I've been giving thought as to whether I should settle on a 7, but knowing that The Colony was a B-movie, I generously gave it an 8.This movie is surprisingly done well. I have a personal liking for post-apocalyptic settings, and this one hits the nail on the spot, for what they chose. As the plot states, a small colony of survivors attempt to survive an ice age, and some unforeseen circumstances occur. There isn't much I <more> |
A Frozen & Scary Dystopia (by in1984) |
7.4 of 10. Saw this close to Oblivion and preferred Colony. Both are solid dystopian sci-fi, with this having the far more solid science behind it, which helps with the believability and immersion. The only other qualities they share involves isolation and some annoying narration by the lead character.Colony has a strong horror aspect to it, including an answer to the question of what might be the middle-ground between human and zombie. There's very little tech involved, contrary to what those seeing Lawrence Fishburne in it might expect. The action, however, is almost entirely fight <more> |
Very good movie don't trust the voting so far (by utopien) |
To be honest this movie is definitely better than 5 / 10. I gave it a solid 7.5, so it's an 8.1. The acting: The acting is very good, also is the writing which adds up to a believable, very intense movie. 2. Special effects: Actually I was impressed on what you can do with such a low budged. It just fits. It's not too much, which serves the "end time" setting. 3. The story: Could have been better but otherwise it would be a 10. So the The colony turns from an "end time" post apocalypse movie to kind of a zombie stuff... but to be honest... I really believe if human <more> |
