DAM this movie was so much better than i expected. After watching the promo trailer and official trailer i had lost all hope that this movie would be good, it looked cheap and crap. But 15 mins into the movie i knew it was going to be good. The are a few minor flaws. The creatures for one, they were just not realistic like they were in the first one. They look stupid, like bats or awks or something. Also the light! DAMMOT this really got to me, it is very rarely dark in the cave, unlike the first one. This is what made the first one so effective and scary but in the sequel there is too much <more>
light which kind of kills the mood. Finally it is really similar to the first one but this really doesn't matter. The acting is great and so is the story. All in all the movie is not really better than the first but is a very good sequel. What made the first one so good was the girls and how close they were. But this movie is still very good. 10/10
The Best Horror Sequel Since ALIENS 1986 (by ThatGuyGus)
After watching the Trailers & hearing about A new Director, & the Negative reviews I watched this film with an opened mind, thinking "Oh great, this is going to be like The Hills have Eyes 2,Wrong turn 2, or even Final Destination 2." Because I thought they were going to Start this movie off with different characters, & a different storyline, but after the first 5 minutes,I suddenly had a light of hope left in me.I think its really cool that Some of the cast from the first one was in here, not many sequels do that. The First one was the reason why I even got into horror <more>
films in the first place, Before I saw The Descent I wasn't much of a horror fan, actually my favorite Horror film was "When A Stranger calls" because I grew up watching Cheap slashers like The Friday The 13th saga, But After watching the Descent, I had no Idea what a scary film was, then I thought to myself, "God, are horror films like this" then I did my research & I really got into good horror films, like Aliens, The Thing, The Shining, Carrie, Etc. Then I thought to myself, "Man,WTF was I missing out."I just Love this Sequel, even though I'll have to admit, It could have used a 1 minute trim at the end, but oh well, this movie was so good, It didn't even matter. This film is REALLY good, but I'll have to warm you all,"WATCH IT WITH AN OPENED MIND,IT IS NOT THE RETURN OF THE SHINING SO QUIT ACTING LIKE IT"Congrats, John Harris, on your Film debut!
Ready for a let down but quite the opposite (by Thamadprofessor_420)
I was honestly ready for this movie to be a complete fail for a film not only because of several different reviews iv read but also because of other movies that try making a second and change the setting and the main characters but keep the story in which the descent 2 did not do. They used the same actresses, the same setting, they did not change anything or add anything unnecessary they just sent a search party after the climbers which is realistically what they would do. On top of that it let's you know what happens to Juno since you don't see her die in the first one. It takes <more>
place a couple days after they all went out so it doesn't just randomly start somewhere. And they are underground blind creatures, I think people expect and just want to see extremely epic deaths but think about their surroundings and the creatures nature, the are limited to what they can do and how they kill you. I was ready for this movie to be a let down, it's been in mi face and I wasn't going to watch it because I didn't want to be disappointed but I finally decided to watch it and I'm really happy I did. I would say if you like the first one, watch it. In mi opinion it doesn't take it to far.
The first "Descent" was one of my favourite movies, and Neil Jordan is probably my favourite horror movies director, and when I came to watch this one, I was quite pessimistic, as in every horror sequel. To my surprise, it's one of the best sequels i've seen.At least for me, it was very surprising who lives and who dies during the plot, and it is just one of the many reasons why it is clear that no Hollywood clichés were used here. Thank you Mr. Jordan, although it's not clear what's your part in the production. There is a feeling, though, that there was a slightly <more>
more use of gore elements here. It can be either bad or good. I think the script was well written, and it isn't a reason for the excessive amounts of human and creatures flesh, which is the reason for gore sometimes, hmm.. did anyone said "Saw"? The main characters all have their own story and depth, which makes it more emotional and interesting from the first minutes of the movie all the way long. Not bad, especially when the first "Descent" was almost all about Juno and Sarah. The creatures are much more detailed then the first title. It is like the production guys were much more proud in the monsters they'v created, and again, it has nothing to do with a shallow script, which isn't the case here. The use of flashlights and stick lights colors, which was almost all the colors i've seen in the first Descent, was much more balanced here. You can see that it was used for creating a special atmosphere and not for "hey! look how original I am!" thing.I'll recommend Part 2 to anyone. Although it's important, in my opinion, to watch the first Descent for understanding some nuances Part 2 features. Don't go caving for a day or two after u see it:
Solid sequel that should spawn a 3rd movie. (by kirk-246)
We all remember the effectiveness of "The Descent".It was an extremely gory attempt that tried to tangle our nerves and entertain us with extremely gory death scenes, and it worked. The sequel isn't QUITE up there with the first, but the scares, gore, and mutants manage to make this sequel a real jolter of a movie. It's a shame that I've seen the first movie on a small television, so I really didn't jump much. But this one I watched in my bedroom and Me and my friend watched it on my much bigger and better television set and I was quite scared.Sometimes you know that <more>
scare is coming, but you jump anyway. The film is not as good as the first.I'm going to throw that out.But you have to admit that it's a very solid piece of entertainment for a movie that didn't make it to theaters.Well, not my theaters. It's a shame to know that a lot of people disliked this movie.C'mon people, it ain't that bad.If your complaining that it's too gory for you or it takes too long to get to the first part with the mutants, you don't know sh*t about film criticism.I really liked it and I'm giving it a very positive recommendation whether you like it or not. "Descent 3" anyone?
Director Jon Harris brings a very powerful horror extravaganza to the screen with this sequel to the original film, The Descent. With a tremendous cast of talented actors, this is certainly a cut above the quality of most horror sequels. In this film the terror of the source material is equaled or at times even surpassed. The beings that dwell in the cavernous dark are imaginative creations and will chill the blood of audiences universally. A stunning environment of unbelievable claustrophobia raises the bar of horror as the characters descend into one of the most hellish environments ever <more>
depicted in a motion picture. The viewer will squirm in their seat and be jolted continuously by the unrelenting horror emanating from the screen. A triumph for the director, screenwriter, set designers, and cast alike, no one who sees this film will soon forget the horror that is indeed The Descent.
A good flashback to the First Movie! (by Ma_Style)
This movie is really good, it is all you need in a Sequel/Part II. It has Suspense, Gore, And Jump-Scenes. Of course it's not better than the first one. But it still give you what the First movie missed and a little more. A very good Horror movie in my opinion. I'm not a Fan of Sequels but i think this one deserves to be remembered. The Characters are good like in the first movie, and the Filming Locations in the Cave from the movie are Almost the same like in the first one. i think the good feeling is the same of the movie Watching it home or in the cinema, but my recommendation is <more>
Unnecessary But Entertaining Sequel... (by EVOL666)
THE DESCENT is the type of film that really didn't need a sequel. But with it's relative popularity-I wasn't the least bit surprised when one was announced. I really didn't know what to expect with THE DESCENT 2, and was honestly expecting the worst-but I'll admit that I was pleasantly surprised by this entertaining if not ground-breaking sequel. The film begins right after the first film ends. Sarah escapes the cave, is discovered by an old man on the road, and the taken to the hospital. Of course the local sheriff wants answers as to why she's the only one to return <more>
from the group of cavers, and what happened to the others. The sheriff puts together a small team to investigate the caves with an amnesiac Sarah in tow. The rest of the film plays out much like the first with very little difference in style or approach...If you enjoyed the first one and don't mind a heavy dose of 're-tread'-then it's surprising to me if you don't like this one. There really isn't much to be brought in terms of originality to a storyline like this unless you start getting into really retarded territory-like as one reviewer stated, 'flying crawlers' or some sh!t like that... -so if they're going to force a sequel on the populace-then it may as well try to be as entertaining as the first, if not wholly original. And i believe this film succeeded. The action is still pretty hot and heavy, it's just as, if not more gory than the first, there's a few good jump-scares, and although not quite as claustrophobic as the first-still some of that as well. The acting, cinematography, gore FX, and score/sound-design are all up to par and in some cases quite good-so I don't have much to bitch about. There are some inconsistencies, like: if these creatures are supposed to hear/smell so well, why can't they sense someone that's RIGHT in front of them?!?!-but for a film like this I prefer to just turn my brain of and go along for the ride. Again-very derivative of the first the only real reason I'm rating it a point lower than the original... , but I feel it could have been a WHOLE lot worse. An interesting twist or two, and an obvious set-up for a third film round out what I consider to be a solid pop-corn horror film and a better-than- average sequel. 8/10
Sarah manages to escape the caves covered in blood and it not hers the sheriff and his deputy force her to go back to the cave because she cant remember what happened to her and her Friends she soon will wheen the horror all begins and the body count starts to rise the fight for survival is back on. this is a brilliant second part you can see the director is a fan of the first one he has a good eye for detail it got some excellent gore effects and the story line is believable and thare are no bad actors in it like most horror films fans of the first one will not be disappointed i hope the <more>
