The Hunter's Prayer is a British-American action thriller film directed by Jonathan Mostow, based on Kevin Wignall's novel "For the Dogs." "The Hunter's Prayer" follows Lucas Worthington , a solitary assassin, hired to kill a young woman, Ella, Rush , who is unaware that her family's questionable business dealings have cost them their lives. However, when Lucas can't bring himself to pull the trigger, the two form a bond and escape across Europe together, hunted by those responsible for her family's murder.Rated R for violence, drug use and <more>
language .This Film Is Absolutely An Excellent Thriller For All The Family. Parents Should Watch It With Their Children, there is no sex at all and the violence is much better than that of Abu Ghraib Prison Torture In Iraq .
The Hunter's Prayer had me interested when I looked at the cast listing, mainly because Sam Worthington I only a few days before watched in "Shack" and I was keen to see how Odeya Rush was developing as a actor.Though the story threw up very little in the way of surprises. It was good to see a solid script, generally good acting and the fight scenes weren't drawn out to pad out the time.Surprisingly little bad language, but slightly marred by graphic drug taking scenes.
Thrilling action with genuine emotion (by robertemerald)
Brilliantly paced acted and directed, this is a thriller worth your armchair. It would make a perfect junior bill for a double feature with a Bond movie. Sam Worthington is brilliantly cast. His deep-thinking, darkly moody and damaged character brilliantly plays the man whom finds the right words so hard to say. There is much more action than dialogue. The supporting cast are largely unknown to me, yet all deliver riveting character roles. It all fits together like an intelligent jigsaw puzzle. The plot has some wonderful new touches, such as the baddie's child son, the strange on-call <more>
nurse whom is both beautiful and forthright, and even the female lead's boyfriend whom for once in a movie is not a secret rotter or idiot . With the surprising female lead you get a real sense of an ordinary girl caught in extraordinary circumstances. Her performance was so good I almost cried thinking of what she must be going through. The locations are wonderfully European if not really a travel log as you'd expect in a Bond movie for example . There are several assassins and so the firefights are unexpected, thrilling and graphically explosive. I really hope this is the beginning of a new franchise Hunter's Dilemma, Hunter's Regret, etc . For me, Hunter's Prayer doesn't quite have Bond or Bourne polish, but it must come in a close second. If you love fast action together with genuine emotional conundrums then you'll definitely need your armchair for a little while.
Lots of good action and decent story. Worth watching (by jonrivera420)
I liked the movie. It was realistic action and the story was entertaining enough to not get bored during the movie. Even though it wasn't released in theaters it was done high quality compared to other Hollywood blockbusters. It was kind of reminded me of a mix between taken and the transporter. Don't know why others hated on it. It was a good movie. Better than a lot of the other action movies I've seen that are super cheesy. It was better than I expected
Road Movie With a Twist (by lavatch)
In the bonus segment of the DVD of "The Hunter's Prayer," director Jonathan Mostow described his intention to transform the generic action and "road film" with a major reversal in the character relationships. Due to the good character developments, the filmmakers were successful in their mission.A hired killer named Lucas Sam Worthington is tasked with the job of killing the daughter of an attorney, who has recently been assassinated at the behest of the nefarious financier named Addison. The daughter, Ella Odeya Rush , who stands to inherit a fortune, is captured <more>
by Lucas, but she asks him a question that is a game changer: "What is your name?" The killer is so taken aback by this human touch that he begins to reflect on his life as a thug. That transformation leads to the new life he will create for himself out of this experience. The film is set in a variety of locations, including Scarsdale, N.Y.; Montreux, Switzerland; Chaumont, France; The English Channel; and Leeds, England. Much of the filming took place in Hungary. But there is some stunning footage of Yorkshire at the close of the film, as well as a grand old English manor house. But the film will not be remembered for its panoramic vistas, but for the bonding that occurs between Lucas and Ella. Most of the characters in this film are villains, and they have no idea that Lucas will change his ways as a Jason Bourne-like killer. One of the bonus segments in the DVD is called "The Cost of Killing." Lucas comes to reflect on that cost, to kick his drug habit, and to contemplate reuniting with his family. In one of the most memorable scenes, Lucas hands Ella his pistol and carefully explains what it takes to kill another human being. It turns out that the scene was improvised by the actors. That scene was one of the turning points for both characters, as they seek not merely to survive, but to discover a new inner identity to start their lives anew.
On action films, there is a typical script: There is a good guy and a bad guy, and someone stuck in the middle. The bad guy targets the middle, and the good guy saves the middle and kills the bad guy.But in this one, the good guy isn't completly good. Well, not fully. The action scenes are well done, though at some points near the beginning, I couldn't see anything as it was pitch black. But hey, it can happen in normal life. Add to the fact that some parts are filmed in Yorkshire, UK. And yes, some are actually in Yorkshire. One part nightclub etc was definatly in Harrogate, <more>
remember them filming and closing the roads.Do I recommend this? Yes I do. If you like your actions with a bit of variety, but with the same type of script, then you may just like this one.
