the theatre was in hysterics! (by patrickdc202) |
Don't believe the bitchy reviews and pay no mind to the lame critics. This movie was a riot. So many critics are like vultures picking over a body and let me say this much, comedy is not a contest to be intellectual or terribly clever. Lighten up, critics. It's to make people LAUGH. And let me share this much, I went on a Wednesday 9pm showing and it was crowded. The audience was cracking up along with me.I loved the film, Glenn Close stole the movie -- and Bette Midler was her partner in crime! The ending was a great twist and was a riot. The original has long been a chilling <more> |
Delightful satire. The entire audience laughed out loud. (by daviddiamond) |
The 2004 Stepford Wives is a delight! This is one of the few movies we have seen where the audience laughed aloud throughout the movie. That is even more exceptional because we saw it at the Ritz, which is an upscale, yuppie, adult, artsy movie theater. We are fortunate that we did not read too many of the critics' reviews, which could have diverted us from a wonderful movie. We normally do not like comedies; we find them too silly and slapstickish. But this one hit its mark in so many places. It was a spoof, first of all, on the original Stepford Wives, with some contemporary issues thrown <more> |
Completely Underrated (by randallkeithorton) |
Let me just say if this movie was made 10 years ago you would see a big fat 8 or 9 instead of a 5.3 or whatever the ridiculous rating is that it has now. This movie was at the very least decent and deserving of a much better rating. Not only did it successfully adapt from the novel but it also provided a not-so-cliché ending, one that the author apparently couldn't even think up.This movie was not anything revolutionary but a 5.3? Give me a goddamn break. What kind of biased jerkoffs are casting their votes anyway? My rating: 7.0/10 |
A Good Time (by LeathermanCraig) |
Yeah, so what! You didn't like it and I did. That's what life is all about, people - differences!I went and saw 'Stepford Wives' with my boyfriend, my dominatrix pal and her grand-daughter. Well, the 3 adults thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed our collective butts off! Why? Well:1 - The casting if PHENOMENAL! Kidman, Broderick, Hill, Midler, Lovitz, Walken and especially! Close are perfectly suited for their characters! Kidman's character is decidedly over-the-top and could not have been played better.... Sure, she's witchy but with a B in the beginning and you <more> |
Definitely not as bad as everyone says it is (by gracegibson) |
I really don't understand why everyone thought this movie was horrible. What was wrong with it? It had a good plot, no one was horrible at their part, and it was funny. It was also artfully done and everything in it was beautiful. In my opinion, it's underrated. Whoever played the gay guy was great and Bette Midler did a great job, too. I thought those two were the funniest. Sure, there really was no need for a remake, but the makers did a great job, anyway? I like how they made the remake into a comedy, instead of a horror film like the original. However, I thought the ending was <more> |
a good laugh (by tkolar-1) |
This is a terrific comedy, with a great cast.I'm not sure at what point the "thriller" tag was added to its description, but it is perhaps the most misleading part of the advertisements. The movie is a farce, a series of comedic set pieces with a rough theme running behind them. Nothing unfolds during the movie that is unknown to anyone who had seen the trailers, or had even a passing familiarity with the first movie. Only at the very end is there anything resembling a plot twist, and that is mostly a set up for a brilliantly funny speech by Stepford's true mastermind. With <more> |
laughed hard, as did a very full theater! (by moconnell-4) |
Despite "iffy" reviews, a friend and I could not wait to see this remake. We went Friday afternoon and the theater was full. During the movie, there was lots of loud laughter throughout the theater. The audience clearly enjoyed this movie, as did we. In fact, this movie is a hoot. From start to finish it is a side-splitting, over the top, tongue-in-cheek revision of the original film. Although as has been noted in other comments the ending is a "little" disconnected from the earlier explanations of the Stepfordization process, it was not until I had gotten home that I <more> |
funny cult movie - don't see why everyone hates it (by screaminggeek) |
The Stepford Wives remake is hilarious! I just read the poor reviews and I'm astonished. Perhaps the writers lacked a satirical sense of humor or perhaps they all weren't familiar with stereotypes of Connecticut residents - or suburbia in general? Truly, if you consider yourself a politically aware person with even a smidgen of urban ethic, you'll love how this movie pokes fun at suburban whiteness. Nicole Kidman is inspired as powerful Manhattan executive in self-imposed suburban exile. But the show-stoppers by far are Glenn Close and Jon Lovitz, two geniuses of character and <more> |
I thought it was a fun movie (by frankgar) |
Forget what the so called "expert" comments on panning this movie, I thought it was great. All of the major players Kidman, Broderick, Close, Walken, Bannister and especially Midler played it over the top. You have to suspend reality in a plot like this one.To me its silly to compare this to the original, horror vs. comedy no way.Remember folks this is not drama.Sit back and enjoy the show!! |
