Hilarious! (by nycljb) |
I was a little reluctant to see this movie since I associate Ben Stiller with mediocre movies that have the kind of humor teenage boys like I'm an older female . This movie started out a little slow in spots, but then it took off like a rocket. There were a few instances of off-color humor that I could have lived without, but in general I thought this movie was really funny. The entire audience was laughing and a couple of times I thought I would fall out of my seat from laughing so hard. The action scenes were very good too. I rarely come across a movie I like as much as I liked this <more> |
Crowd-Pleasing Comedy Caper Film Delivers the Goods (by GeneralUrsus) |
Brett Ratner's latest is a finely crafted, comedy caper that moves swiftly and elicits great performances from a star studded cast. The story unfolds gradually as we meet a quartet of employees who have been swindled by arrogant building owner Arthur Shaw via a scheme reminiscent of Bernie Madoff. These four horseman with Stiller as their ring leader decide to pull off an improbable heist. The timely plot mirrors the harsh current economic climate. Alda is especially strong in his arrogant portrayal as Arthur Shaw the owner of the Tower. He nails his role with a relentless, wicked ire in <more> |
A rare Thanksgiving movie! (by StorieLuver) |
I love holiday movies and have well-established lists of standard watching for both Halloween and Christmas, but there are only a scant few for Thanksgiving "Son-in-Law," "Scent of a Woman," "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," "Dutch" . However, while the ones listed all focus on going home for Thanksgiving, I love that "Tower Heist" instead makes the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade regular turkey day viewing in my home a crucial plot element. Less obvious, but still tied to Thanksgiving, are the themes of greed Alda's character vs. <more> |
Enjoyable Comedy/Action! (by Merbit) |
I didn't have high expectations walking into this film. So I was extremely delighted to laugh out loud with the entire audience throughout most of the movie! We were laughing so much, that I think we missed a few jokes because we were too loud. That's a pretty good problem to have! From the trailers, I thought it was a strange cast; but now that I've seen the movie, I believe the casting was fantastic! The action was original and kept me intrigued throughout the film. That's not so easy these days when I can usually predict most of the movie. The movie entertained me so much, I <more> |
Fun filled, and very fast paced (by charlytheron-970-924999) |
This movie reminded me why I loved Eddie Murphy in the first place. It surpassed my every expectation. Eddie Murphy was in top gear, Ben Stiller was in top gear, but the biggest surprises came from Gaby Sidibe and Matthew Broderick. They made me laugh just as much as our lead characters. The movie is over the top. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. If your looking for a well thought out, logical heist movie, don't bother going to see this. If your just looking for pure fun and laughs, this movie is for you.A great cast, good directing, silly plot, and just pure entertainment. Go see this <more> |
Eddie Murphy's best movie in years. (by PWNYCNY) |
This movie is hilarious. Everyone in it is funny. This is Eddie Murphy's best performance in years, maybe decades. He still has it. Casey Affleck's deadpan performance confirms that he is one of the great movie comedians. But the two funniest players are Ben Stiller and Alan Alda. These two fellows carry the movie and are the stars of the show. The story itself is great. It's so goofy that it inevitably produces laughs, again and again. This movie is kind of like Oceans 11 except without the pretentiousness. Everything about this movie is geared to generate laughs. At first, the <more> |
Better Than I Expected (by ntennan) |
I was able to see one of the first screenings of Tower Heist last night. I went in just happy to see a free movie two weeks before its release, but at the same time I was not expecting this movie to be that funny. With that said, it was a lot better than I expected. Eddie Murphy's character was an over-the-top funny type of guy and Ben Stiller had his moments of over-the-top humor too. The plot itself is obviously not that believable, but let's be honest, if you go into this movie expecting an "Italian Job-like" heist plot then you might as well not even go. The supporting <more> |
Great Movie, better than I expected! (by jdemo2008) |
I hadn't seen a good Eddie Murphy movie in some time and when I saw the trailer I thought it was going to be a very predictable story line. But on the contrary...it was fresh and very entertaining! The beginning kept me guessing how the plot was going to set up. Then, when it all came together, their plan started to unravel...It was nice to see Matthew Broderick acting again and in full quirk mode...He played a great nerd! Alan Alda was a joy to hate as the bad guy and Ben Stiller was his usual perfect lead man! The casting was perfect and the music kept the excitement going until the <more> |
Surprisingly Good! (by astangelo) |
Tower Heist was much more of a legitimate heist movie ala Italian Job than I thought it would be. I saw the movie as part of an advanced screening and went into it with really low expectations. But the movie blew me away. The jokes weren't cheap and they didn't distract from what turned out to be a well written plot. That said, the movie was really funny; mostly from watch these characters, who are completely unqualified, attempt to jerry-rig a robbery.Ben Stiller played a pretty believable character, different from his normal over-the-top variety. And, it was good to see Eddie <more> |
