Turbo Kid nails it/cuts it/slices it. (by brianmckann) |
If your primary movie-going experience is watching Hollywood blockbusters with vin diesel, this may not be your cup of tea, but for everyone else, this film destroys it.This film is pure gold, 80's indulgent, brain melting gore, a love story, and even somewhat artistic at times.I won't drone on, but this film i destined to be a staple in horror/art house/comedy cinema. It is fast-paced, adorable, hilarious, brutal, and has a charm that only filmmakers in love with their genres can produce. This is not Hollywood, but you wouldn't know it. Often times I can either purchase a film to <more> |
80's Movie Magic (by connih) |
I usually don't like bloody/gory movies but oh man this movie was really good! I love the 80's feel of the film... I mean who doesn't, but this movie was spot on! I was first attracted tho this movie because I love Michael Ironside, and I started reading all the reviews online and everyone had so much great stuff to stay so I was super excited when I first saw the film. Even though Michael isn't the nicest person in this film, he was still funny at some parts. I love how this movie has a quirky humor and the blood scenes are super exaggerated I usually can't tolerate <more> |
Set your expectations right! (by kk-yanakiev) |
I don't really have any previous knowledge of most of the actors or seen or heard anything prior to watching the movie apart from the trailer.I won't go into plot details as there are other reviews that did that way better. What I do want to say though is: set your expectations right!!! If you liked what you saw in the trailer, hey...if you liked the poster and know what "homage" means as a genre then go see it! But if you are not aware of those things....please don't come back here giving ratings of 1 and saying how bad this movie was. It's one of those artsy movies <more> |
Destined to become a sci fi/horror classic? (by JimC1946) |
I have no difficulty believing that Turbo Kid won an Audience Award at the 2015 South by Southwest SXSW festival, and several awards or nominations at other film festivals. It's 95 minutes of outrageous gore and belly laughs. Yes, I meant that. Whoever had the fake blood concession undoubtedly made a hefty profit supplying dozens of gallons of the red stuff, and I laughed myself silly at the number of gruesome ways the expendable characters died. But it was all in fun - the mayhem and violence was not too over-the-top explicit okay, there was the scene with the guy's guts being <more> |
independent movie gold! (by sweeeetmikey) |
This film is independent movie gold. The cinematography is beautiful, from the old buildings, to the landscapes, this film makes you believe your in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. There are a lot of practical effects and blood gags, lots of blood! One touch I enjoyed was the use of bicycles, if you think about it, it makes scent in a post-apocalyptic world there most likely isn't gas so how else do you get around. The little bit of C.G. they use is really 80's, as well as the music and props, which is part of the charm of Turbo Kid. Besides Total Recall's 1990 Michael Ironside <more> |
Mix a young hero on a BMX, his odd girl friend, comic-book-like weapons, all within a post-apocalypse world. But there is much more to admire in this surprising movie (by JvH48) |
Saw this at the IMAGINE film festival 2015 in Amsterdam. When reading the synopsis on IMDb as well as the festival website, we all know beforehand that it is to become utter nonsense, that being said without criticizing the end result. It is beautifully made and entertaining for the full running time. Like most post-apocalypse movies this one seems to revolve around survival-of-the-fittest struggles.Luckily there was much more, which makes this one stand out, partly due to the unusual protagonists, partly due to the robots that play an important role as per this year's festival theme. <more> |
Skeletron "FTW" (by thisseatofmars) |
"Turbo Kid" is a post-apocolypic comedy that I've seen described as "Mad Max meets BMX." I don't know if I'd agree that, however. "Turbo Kid" feels a lot more like its own thing. "Mad Max" is set in the Wasteland, and the latest MM film had a multi-million dollar budget. "Turbo Kid," in contrast, was Canadian funded ouch and is set in Canada in November, it looks like and everyone rides bicycles.Yeah.I like this movie: in fact, I watched a lot of it with a smile on my face. It's almost a perfect movie, except for one thing: <more> |
B movie Fans, please apply! (by KeroScee) |
Turbo Kid can basically be summarised as 'The Road Warrior' on bicycles. Basic post-apoc tropes apply, and it makes no attempt to be anything other than what it is. And it does so admirably. The story is simple in a good way , the soundtrack admirable and the scenery is appropriately bleak.'B-movies' like this are hard to judge in terms of acting, but the actors play their parts admirably. It may be cringe worthy or cheesy to some, but its grand nonetheless. The effects are 'cheap', over the top and feel very 'dated', but in a good way.If you love cheesy 80s <more> |
