Plot: Straitlaced Princeton University admissions officer Portia Nathan (Tina Fey) is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her former college classmate, the freewheeling John Pressman (Paul Rudd). Pressman has surmised that Jeremiah (Nat Wolff), his… Runtime: 107 min Release Date: 22 Mar 2013
Funny and emotional. Really worth seeing! Tina Fey proves that she can do it all. Lily Tomlin is absolutely phenomenal. The story starts out as funny, charming then ultimately becomes more emotional. So I laughed at the movie and I cried at the movie. I wish they had spent more time skewring the admissions process, but as the story of a woman who is on the wrong track in life and is afraid to make changes, it is really successful. Wallace Shawn plays the director of Admissions and he does so much with his part. As does Nat Wolff as the possible kid of Tina Fey's character. I think this <more>
movie was done with a much smaller budget than it needed so the actors didn't get to improvise as much as we're used to, but I love how game Tina dn Paul Rudd were to do stuff we never get to see them do. This is not a Judd Apatow movie, it is more like an indie. A little gem.
Portia Nathan Tina Fey is an honest aggressive admissions person for Princeton. The beginning of the film establishes her character and perfect life. She visits a school in New Hampshire, near where she was born, to make a presentation. Her reception was a bit unusual and at times confrontational. John Pressman Paul Rudd runs the school and wants one of his exceptional students, Jeremiah Nat Wolff to attend Princeton.Portia's mother is played by Lily Tomlin, who I thought was dead because I don't watch a lot of TV shows. She proves to be quite the character, like something <more>
stolen from John Irving. It appears that Jeremiah may be Portia's biological son she gave up for adoption. This creates numerous humorous, "That was weird" moments as her life has just been turned inside out.Perhaps the oddest thing about the film is that the writers seemed to have placed New Jersey and New Hamshire near each other as the characters are constantly and without much effort driving back and forth between the two, sometimes twice a day.This is a romantic comedy with an emphasis on comedy. It is a feel good film, but not a tear jerker. A film Tina Fey can use on her resumé.Parental Guide: 1 F-bomb. No nudity. Off screen implied sex.
Very underrated movie, in my opinion (by aandrewdorst74)
I was really surprised at the review ratings for this movie.At first I considered not watching it because of the average rating, but when flipping through it it appeared like a movie to consider watching, after all some ratings, for me, have been way off. I am not into really bad slap stick comedy or bad acting, or in mediocre been done before scripts. I began watching the movie and almost regretted it, after a slow start, and after a few over acted comedy parts, but upon finishing it, I was glad I stuck it out. The overly comic parts were far and few between, and turned out to be a little of <more>
the comic relief that balanced the emotional and some what unique script. The acting by Tina,Ben,Paul,and Travaris was actually good they gave Tina a bit much of the overly comic parts, but what can you do . Overall, I was impressed with the movie and its "differentness". I would recommend this movie to those who aren't overly critical on every detail and aspect of a movie, to those who like sensitive movies that overcome pasts and trials and fight for people and ideals, and to those who can weigh the value of people who are not perfect or who do things perfectly, but who change and grow and fight to do better.
This movie was surprisingly good. I say surprising, only because I don't seem to recall it ever being advertised or promoted. This movie had some great actors in it with lots of funny lines and an intriguing story. Worth a watch!
SO GOOD just wish i could have re-wrote the end. (by andwecango)
i was expecting this cliché, almost chick flick feel, light, comedic romance/comedy filled with sarcastic yet witty banter with jokes that make u smile but not really laugh out loud and i was SO wrong!!it has so much heart i almost teared up.UNTIL that stupid smudge mark on the birth certificate ruined the entire movie and I was stunned when finding out she wasn't really his birth mother. It was quite the let down after the director did SUCH A WONDERFUL JOB with the formed and warm-loving and caring chemistry between the boy, Jerimiah and Tina Fey's character!! And now he'll go <more>
to Princeton always assuming he only got in because she fought for her "son." which she pretty much did until it got her fired and such a great story goes from a happy, good-feeling film to a tragedy where you then gotta just kinda HATE Paul Rudd for pretty much making one easily avoided mistake which ends up literally ruining her entire life.I love Paul Rudd but what was with the traveling to Uganda business being so god-damn important to him. More important than the sanctity of his own adopted son who wanted nothing more than to be "boring" like Tina Fey. Well I guess she's not anymore now that her entire world has been destroyed and she spent a year in false hope and the worst kind thinking she;s a mother with a wonderful, gorgeous, and bright son. ALL-ALL I truly did love the movie though because even with such a frustrating ending the movie just carried itself with such warmth and charm and I'd honestly BUY it today re-watching it on the same day believe it or not. It was just that cute and made me even laugh pretty hard sometimes.-the "dog" thing LOL after the 3d time killed me the most -plus her always being caught by her ex-having some sort of mental breakdownit all came together nicely and I will most likely research on IMDb who played her "fake son" beause he was really sexy and I'd like to see that face again plus i recognized him from something and since i am usually FANTASTIC at that, i can't let it go unanswered as well as looking up the directors name and film directing history or writing history and probably watch everything else he ever did.what can i say? i know what I like and am a complete movie buff. this was my first review on here because i just made a membership finally after using this sight for over ten years and finally i feel like enough of a movie buff, watched enough commentaries, and own more DVD's than my local library.my name is bonnie by the way. hi.::off to finish total recall:: fell asleep trying to watch it this morning, think i was just probably drowsy though due to my new medication. i'm not crazy, i swear. ;
Tina Fey and Paul Rudd and cast are nice surprises for their performances in the humorous drama Admission (by tavm)
Okay, like some reviewers here, I watched Admission expecting a comedy, the kind Tina Fey and Paul Rudd usually are associated with but unlike some of them, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was more of a drama than a rom-com. I also liked Lily Tomlin's performance as Ms. Fey's mother especially when she's initially on screen. Actually, Ms. Fey is quite hilarious whenever she emphasizes her sad emotions for her benefit like when she's talking to her colleague-and rival for the dean's job-about her emotions. There's quite a lot of good scenes of both humor <more>
and drama abounding here. Really, all I'll say now is that I very much enjoyed watching Admission and I wouldn't mind seeing it again some other time in the future.
What a lovely woman. Tina Fey.One can totally fall in love with such a character.I know it is only a movie but I think in real life she is probably not far of from the character she portray in this movie.The movie itself...? Don't watch it if you are into shock humor or lewd comedy. This is good clean fun with a slight touch of sadness. As a matter of fact this tend more towards a funny drama. Good clean fun compared with the Hollywood norm of today. Paul Rudd holds his own in the movie but Tina is definitely the star.Not your typical Hollywood smut; obsessed with genitals and sex.
Funny and warm-hearted comedy of errors with Fey on top of her game (by george.schmidt)
ADMISSION 2013 *** Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Lily Tomlin, Gloria Reubens, Wallace Shawn, Michael Sheen, Nat Wolf, Travaris Spears, Sonya Walger, Olek Krupa. Funny and warm-hearted comedy of errors with Fey on top of her game as a Princeton admissions officer who finds herself in a moral quandary: a possible candidate for the esteemed university may be her long-lost son. Rudd is amiable and low-key fun as the director of a special school of higher education including the lad in question and has great chemistry with Fey too boot. Tomlin is a stitch as her crunchy granola feminist mom who steals <more>
the film. While director Paul Weitz mixes the screwball with the sentimental in fine spurts the screenplay by Karen Croner, based on Jean Hanff Korelitz' novel, cuts the corners a bit in the satire-rich atmosphere.
