Great return to the Late 90's horror days (by Klovemovies)
To me at least it felt like it, Crazy yet simple plot, dumb teens, lots of blood, and innovative kills. Also the usual parents have no clue their kid is in danger thing. This movie as you may know is about a killer Chain Man who is killing kids who delete or refuse to forward the chain letter he sends out within 24 hours. Thats about that right there. Nikki Reed is beautiful as ever. And I felt the cast had a strong connecting with Director Deon Taylor. One of my few problems is you can see the kills when they come none of them just JUMP out at you. Anyway like I said this has the look and <more>
feel of a late 90s slasher and a pretty good twist. Def. check this one out
I don't qualify as a horror fan and randomly watched this movie because my friend chose it. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. While it fulfills what audience would expect from the genre serial killer, gruesome and very creative details of killing, some nudity, pretty teenage girls, etc , it managed to engage my attention throughout the movie. it def. kept me guessing the whole way and because I had to cover my eyes for some parts, I didn't get all the answers- won't go into details to avoid spoilers... Performance-wise, I noticed several very familiar faces altho i <more>
couldn't tell their names. i googled them after watching the movie. One of the leads Cody Kasch was Meridith's son from DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and he gave an incredible performance in this movie! Brad Dourif most ppl would remember him as Grima Wormtongue from Lord of the Rings plays a rather creepy teacher and def. made a very strong impression. The girls are great too. Nikki Reed fans should be happy to see her having so much screen time. Very realistic concerns about internet safety and privacy is addressed in the movie. After this I am SERIOUSLY considering deleting my facebook page permanently and stop blogging. I wonder if watching SOCIAL NETWORK will counter this decision Will def. be very careful who I give out my phone # and name card to for sure... I can imagine this movie might be very chilling for the parents of teens. Overall it was a pretty intense 90 min in the theater. I guess it'd be more enjoyable for horror fans but overall it was worth the $$ for me. :
Not for the queasy and weak of stomach, but it's still pretty good! (by alexisMhendy)
With me being a HUGE horror and Nikki Reed fan,I had to see this...now I would say this movie really wasn't half bad! Now from trailers and such I expected better, but it still wasn't to bad...In "Chain Letter" I got to see just the amount of gruesome and blood and gore in this movie as I wanted...while my dad was queasy at stomach about it. Almost anytime a gruesome bloody scene came up he'd say like horror movies were never this brutal back in my day! So on this film I'd say it's worth watching if you're a horror type person, but if not I'd stay away. <more>
Also **SPOILER ALERT** this film isn't too nice to Nikki Reed fans considering it's all good until the end. The ending sucks in 2 ways: we don't find out who the "Chain Man" is or the bad guy and Reed's character Jesse Campbell dies a brutal death that even I hated seeing! And I can sit through anything and everything! Jesse has her one foot tied to one car while the other is tied to the other, and as the 2 cars go, they stop to let one car pass, but sad thing is, Jesse's dad is driving one car while her mom drives the other :! So as her mom sees her tied to their cars in the rear view mirror she doesn't go but the dad drives off and he doesn't know she's tied to their cars, so Jesse's ripped in 2: ...the mom didn't do CRAP to help stop him though! Evil witch>:/! Sad ending but again I say worth seeing, not for weak of stomach, and finally, yea I would watch it again that's the power of having it on DVD ;and I give it 9/10 stars!
Immensely and utterly fun effort (by kannibalcorpsegrinder)
After receiving and failing to forward a chain letter, a group of friends find themselves killed off one-by-one by a masked madman and must find a way to stop him before they're all killed. There was a lot of good things here which makes this a great deal of fun. The most notable of the film's positives is the awesome death scenes which are incredibly gory and a lot of fun. Some of the kills are pretty suspenseful and definitely creepy, and the action presented in the set-ups are rather fun, from the film's opening where a chained victim to different cars driving away from the same <more>
driveway, the football player who gets his face ripped apart by the steel in the high-school gym or the garage encounter in front of the visiting friend. That also helps out here with the stalking scenes throughout here as this one generates some really tense and thrilling scenes which makes for a surprisingly suspenseful time, as the walk-through of the abandoned pant with the dangling chains makes for a really comic feel, the big encounter in the bathroom where he traps her girlfriend inside and has to hold him off from breaking in is a particularly chilling highlight sequence and the stalking of the brother is really creepy with the continuous chain letters popping up driving him insane before getting to the big ambush kill in fine fashion are all really fun suspense scenes that make for a really great time here. This one also manages to get a lot right with the killer featured here who is quite imposing, not only being a muscular hulk of a man but wears a really imposing mask that works well due to the simplicity of it all, plus there's the added bonus of the unusual weapon for doling out the death that works really well and adds an extra dimension to the kills. These here are more than enough to hold this one up against the few flaws. The main problem here, which is what's really damaging to the film overall, is the utter cluelessness of them to figure out what's going on, waiting until far too late into the film to finally determine the true nature of what's happening and getting the proper authorities to realize the matter from there doesn't have any time to develop because of their cluelessness, which could've been avoided rather early on. As well, the cult angle comes out of nowhere and has so little set-up it's hard to feel for them since we know nothing about them, their purpose or even the motive behind this batch of kills, making for a wholly disappointing story overall that makes the first half here rather tough to get into. Likewise, there's also a pretty weak and overall lousy suspense scene in that section where he stalks the friend in the gym in a really protracted sequence that forever and really weakens it's suspenseful attempts here. It's still watchable due to the gore and the kills, but a little more info would work well.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Brief Nudity.
This is a movie for Horror fans. If you've grown up with horror classics from the 80s and 90s you'll have a better appreciation for this movie. Many people and critics are not feeling the movie because they are looking into the wrong message, but the horror fans are. This movie is not intellectually stimulating, as someone mentioned, it is a simple plot technology vs. man . It is only meant to be taken as entertainment, nothing more. If you are looking for a plot in a horror thriller you will find that plots have been run into the ground The Ring/Ringu concept, for example and <more>
it's just another excuse to entertain. If that disappoints you bow out of Horror now. Plot recycles happen, so take it for what it's worth and enjoy the thrills. I know I did.
Another sadistic movie with different plot (by moviewiz-4)
After searching for another thriller and gruesome movie, i finally find one, "chain letter". The story, everyone know this is another teen movie although i am an adult but i still enjoy this a lot. It is about a chain letter and as you know the story goes one. The plot is mainly focusing at technology and not with the title itself. What i can say is that it is better to categorize this into "horror" instead of other genre. I remember some countries in the world are quite fantasized with the so called chain letter. I received it myself ten to fifteen years ago but with <more>
different purpose. It goes like this, "if you sent it to 10 people you will get lucky and to 20 or more you will get luckier. It was in the 80's so "this" chain letter movie is simply outdated and no research has been made before from the director sorry but no offend .
