Cherry Falls a 10/10

Hasty and breathless in execution - which really only adds to the overall loony pace and energy. I hear the uncut version is utterly ferocious and I'd like to hear from anyone who can get the infamous five minute 'Annette' death scene that was removed from the film I saw.

rather creepy looking killer. Ken Seldon takes what could have been a lousy concept and makes a wonderfully twisted and entertaining story. There's also the occasional touch of comic relief like the have sex or die party and a dark sense of humor about the story. The murder sequences are gory and shocking despite the limitations of TV censors, which caused some of the film to be edited.The cast is pretty good. Young Brittany Murphy is appealing and likable as a rather unconventional leading girl. Michael Biehn is great as Murphy's father who's also the local sheriff. Jay Mohr is excellent as the rather timid school teacher who fears for his students safety. The supporting cast is also good, most notably Candy Clark as Murphy's slightly odd mother.Cherry Falls is a film that really got the shaft on its releasing, as it's far superior to a number of the theatrically released slasher-by-the-numbers flicks that where out around the time. Horror fans, before you bother with the likes of Urban Legend 1998 , the lousy Valentine 2001 or any sequel, give this one a turn! You just might find it to be one of the best!*** 1/2 out of ****

again, I now realise it was done with tongue very firmly in cheek. That said, it still has some genuinely scary moments but they're just icing, rather than cake.There is a certain genre teen/shock/comedy that Hollywood seems to do really well at recently, and this is another example. A fine cast, good balance of comedy and thrills, just enough gore to keep you satisfied. It's a formula that works well, and a tribute to the artists that freshness is maintained.My advice is ignore the plot, and revel in the humour and artistry. This was never intended to be a cult horror film. It is a fun movie, and should be judged according to entertainment value. It's a film to easily amuse when you don't have the energy or enthusiasm for life's drudgery. And if you're a Murphy fan, don't miss it.UPDATE: Following the sad passing of the young lady who since I wrote the above, went on to become my favourite actress ever, I urge you to watch this movie if you haven't already. Brittany Murphy is simply irreplaceable as a person and as an actress. She never got the credits she deserved in life, so I hope Heaven treats her well. There will never be another like her.

whatever, it's an awesome slasher film, definitely worth a rent!

trouble is, thanks to a terrible event that occurred 27 years earlier, Jody is already way up on the killer's 'to do' list.Cherry Falls lacks gore and nudity due to studio-imposed cuts , and the identity of its killer should be apparent to most viewers long before the big reveal a few blatant red herrings will do little to throw seasoned slasher fans off the scent ; however, thanks to a witty script, a strong central performance from the lovely Murphy R.I.P. , confident tongue-in-cheek direction from Geoffrey Wright who also gave us the shocking skinhead drama Romper Stomper , and a decent supporting cast Biehn, Jay Mohr, Jesse Bradford, and... errr... D.J. Qualls , this still manages to be one of the better entries in the late 90s/early 2000s slasher revival.I give Cherry Falls a very respectable 7.5/10 rounded up to 8 for IMDb, but if I ever find a director's cut—blood and boobs intact—I imagine that rating will go even higher.

Cherry Falls is one of the most ludicrous and intensely funny films I have ever seen. It is truly remarkable in that sense. I cannot believe that the makers of the film intended it to be anything other than a comedy Naked Gun style film. Look at the title, 'Cherry Falls' and read on. Take first the plot. There is a mad killer on the loose who is killing all the virgins in a town, i.e. roughly everyone below the age of 16. The killer targets teenagers who are, for obvious reason, the age group least likely to have sex. So to avoid being killed the kids organise a 'lose your virginity party'. Hence the title 'Cherry Falls', 'losing your cherry' being a slang term for 'losing your virginity', in Britain at any rate, I don't know if it is in the US and Canada. Guess if its not a slang term there the immediate comic reference would be lost, but it was certainly spotted here in Britain. So 'Cherry Falls' 'virginity falls', the plot of the film. I love that.There are so many ludicrous moments in the films as well, like a point where one of the teenage girls fights off the murderer with a stuffed swordfish. Utterly ludicrous and totally hilarious! Also the revelation of whom the murderer is is just insane, totally bonkers and very funny. Although the reason why the murderer is killing virgins is quite a good one and actually a very sinister, evil and really psychologically scary thing. Its kinda sad as well, a reason that makes the viewer feel sympathetic to the murderer, yet also scared.Really though the film is a total farce and is just so very funny that it has become one of my favorite films. Don't take it seriously and don't take it as a pure horror/slasher film because you will be disappointed. Take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy it as a farcical comedy because that is the best way. It does have moments of great suspense, some good shocks, some very scary psychological scenes, and some very brutal moments, but all in all the horror aspects are totally blown away by the comedy. But as Alice Cooper once said, 'every horror film I've ever seen has been a great comedy, except maybe the exorcist because that had a very religious bottom to it'. Cherry Falls is exactly the same, a horror that is a great comedy, but very scary in a psychological sense because the murderer is very twisted and played to perfection. Watch this film, you'll laugh till you hurt and have a great time. 8 out of 10.

enjoyable on repeat viewings as finding the identity of the killer is not the movie's main attraction.
