great movie minus one big thing (by lovettstough) |
I think is a great movie minus one huge think or mistake is a better word for it. The plot and the scrip or writing and everything was great and again except for one huge mistake which is a huge big deal. There is an alcoholic drunk cop who is drinking on the job not only at the sheriffs office but also while he is out on patrol in his cruiser drinking and driving and making fun of people and making assumptions about people. He beats guy in front of another deputy who seems like a good guy at first when he lets the innocent guy go but then when things hit the fan he backs up the alcoholic <more> |
Loved it... (by djaremosone) |
One of the best Christmas movies I've ever seen. Its not perfect that's for sure , but that was what was perfect about it , everything was flawed , just like real situations and real people. All the actors were top notch without a hint of boredom in any scene and D'Onofrio knocked it out of the park as the boozy deputy trying to make good , you know how you watch a movie and pick out the main characters , in this film I had the feeling there were no main characters , just well jelled entertainment. This is not your ordinary cookie cutter Christmas movie fare...Don't try and <more> |
Smart Dark Comedy!! (by eric-574-280280) |
This is my first review, mainly to defend this movie. I've used IMDb for years to filter movies based on user reviews, but more importantly, critic reviews. My favourite movies are often those that receive average user reviews, but positive critic reviews; when the mainstream critics finally chime in, this movie will be no exception. It's always interesting to me when a movie receives mainly very high ratings and very low ratings. If you're a fan of Dark Comedy and can appreciate a movie that makes you think...this one is for you! |
Ironically the most beautifully shot Christmas Movie I've ever seen (by isiah-46018) |
El Camino directed by David E. Talbert. This movie has been the most unique Black-Comedy Christmas Movie I have ever seen, it has the happy touchy feeling as the classic "It's A Wonderful Life" and the dark gritty humor as "Bad Santa." It's a movie that will offend and a movie that will make those with weaker hearts sad and those with hyper-logical thought process angry. But what makes this movie so watchable in my view, is how possible this scenario is. Hostage situations are the most tense crime thrillers in the genre. This one tells the story of a man in the <more> |
A weird movie that is a joy to watch (by danielle-backus) |
I noticed that most of the negative reviews for this movie simply state "this movie isn't defineable, therefore I don't like it." It's not exactly a comedy, it's not exactly a tragedy, it doesn't really make sense, but I sure loved watching it! I don't understand the negativity. I especially enjoyed the 12 days of Christmas song during the end credits. If you want to watch something really off-beat, this is the movie for you! |
Pretty darn good, but not for everyone (by Mobius2000) |
**WARNINGS**First warning: If this were a rated film, it would be "R", not only for the multiple F-bombs, but the subject matter and plot.Second warning: This ain't Hallmark. There are some funny moments, but overall, this is pretty dark. It's not a typical "Christmas" movie. In fact, there isn't a super strong connection to Christmas. That said, I enjoyed it a lot. Tim Allen is definitely playing against type. I believe it's hard to play "stupid" convincingly, but Dax Shepard pulls it off. Michelle Mylett looks very familiar, but upon checking <more> |
A modern American Christmas classic (by JaynaB) |
American cinema doesn't do ensemble that well very often, and it frequently gets punished at the box office, as well as by viewers and by reviewers, for even trying. This film pulls together a low-key cast with an intelligent script and ends up as a quirky, darkly humorous drama that unfolds over Christmas Eve. The characters are a motley crew of misfits and losers, stereotypical small-towners on the surface, with the obligatory pregnant woman arriving as a tv reporter from the big city. The actors, many of whom we're used to seeing in bigger roles where they tend to take up a lot of <more> |
Great satire on the ineptitude of trigger happy police. (by slaptastical) |
I felt compelled to write a a review of this movie after watching this on Netflix last night, really enjoying it and then reading another user review that I felt completely missed the mark. The review described it as full of dumb characters doing really dumb things which makes it totally unbelievable and annoying to watch. But that's exactly why it is great. So forgive me if I am wrong but the point of the movie is it serves as a social commentary on the ineptitude of some police and public and their willingness to act first, think later. It plays out a bit like Coen brothers comedy of <more> |
