Hatchet 3 A new Masterpiece in the New American Horror (by juliendelattre)
BJ McDonnell did an excellent job as a novice director. I think with the writing of Adam Green the creator of the series it is the perfect team.I was happy to see Derek Mears as the swat leader. I was impressed by the special effects. They really created new ways for new victims. The music score was very suspenseful! I waited for a year to watch this fantastic movie. I would like every film student to watch the Hatchet series. There is so much to learn from Adam Green and his entire cast and crew. In Hatchet 3 the sets are designed with the script in mind. There are some interesting shots <more>
that i would not think before. Kane Hodder had to act, wear prosthetics, make up and do stunts in high heat of Louisiana. I say Excellent to him! In overall, a new American horror as a new name: Victor Crowley.10/10
Why don't you offer me some fried chicken and watermelon while you're at it? (by amr-saad1996-712-418843)
Let me start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of slasher films, and the Hatchet series especially. I've watched the first two several times and couldn't wait for this release. The film starts off where the last one ended, with Marybeth shooting Crowley's head off with a shotgun extremely gory . However, this is not enough to kill him and he soon wakes up and attacks her again, leading to some sort of bloody chainsaw incident which left Crowley in pieces literally . To make sure this time, Marybeth chops off Crowley's head and flees Honey Island swamp with it in her <more>
hands, ending up at a police station in custody. The rest? You'll find out for yourself! Incredibly violent, gory, and at times hilarious, this film has it all. Crowley is as terrifying as ever, the acting is solid, and I appreciate the reappearance of Ben from the first film although it only lasted for a couple of seconds ! The only weak point here is probably that some of the kills are a bit bland and pointless, which is very strange for Hatchet. But overall, most of the deaths are detailed and will leave you cringing. If you've watched the first two, you'll love this! If you haven't, I suggest you know what you're getting into, because this is gonna be one hell of a ride!
Probably the best of the series (by kannibalcorpsegrinder)
Still alive after her battle with Victor Crowley, a woman is forced to go back into the swamps to save the rescue team attempting to find the cause of the disappearances and find him still alive and hunting them down with barbaric viciousness.Overall this was an utterly enjoyable and over-the-top entry in the series that makes for a wholly enjoyable time here. What really works for this one is the sheer, utter ruthlessness on display throughout the film, which ranges from the opening attack that continues on the themes from the previous entry to the way this one goes for the different attacks <more>
and encounters throughout here, there's hardly anything in here that goes for subtlety as it's so over-the-top and gleeful in doling out this extremely fun time. There's also the return here of the utterly brutal and graphic kills that were part of the first one being put to great effect as this one is just so bloody and graphic that it manages to top the original in several cases with the brutality of the kills on display which are not only impressive for the spectacle but also for the creativity into featuring them all in one singular film. That alone would've made this one incredibly enjoyable even before the exploits of what really make this one work in the outstanding action scenes that are simply overflowing throughout the film, not only giving this another positive itself in the frantic pace but also giving this one some of the most enjoyable aspects of itself. The opening attack in the swamp is a great continuation, but it also sets up the first of the many encounters here where the recovery team meets their fate on the river-boat, the resulting massacre in the swamps and finally the film's best parts where the SWAT team is targeting the killer in here through some utterly fantastic action scenes where their weaponry is brought to bear on his hideout which results in a frantic firefight in the jungle, a series of blazing encounters where he just annihilates the entire troupe and being forced to using a bazooka in the situation all to no avail as he continues the assault on them. The final attack on the survivors in the remains of the river-boat is equally impressive resulting in some genuine tension and suspense in the situation as the slowly-growing hole and reduced shelter spaces works against the race to get there for the final dealing blow here is equally enjoyable. Likewise, the suspense from their trek through the dim, eerie swamps at the beginning makes for quite an enjoyable time, as well as allowing for a great break against the unrelenting violence, and coupled with the grisly humor throughout here and the strong story that ties the series together all makes this one truly a lot of fun. While some might find issue with the over-the- top gore, it's not enough of a detriment here against this to hold it down.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Graphic Nudity.
I did not have high hopes for this movie, indeed I expected I would be turning it off or fast-forwarding through it. But actually, I found it engrossing from the very beginning and I never once fast-forwarded it. There are some great actors mixed in with some not so great actors and there are several semi well-known names in this film. The story line was a bit lame, but the killings are really good, it has some scenes with great suspense and the special effects / makeup was pretty good. All in all, definitely worth a view. I think the director did a good job with what he had to work with. <more>
This movie has inspired me to want to watch parts 1 and 2, though I have been told this one is the best of the lot.
Adam Green must have been whispering in McDonnell's ear the whole time! (by Hellmant)
'HATCHET III': Four Stars Out of Five The third installment in the popular slasher film series that began in 2006 with the cult classic original about an unkillable and deformed sociopath, named Victor Crowley, lurking in the Louisiana Swamp and killing anyone who comes across his path. He's played in all three films by Kane Hodder, who is most well known for playing 'Jason Voorhees' multiple times in the 'FRIDAY THE 13TH' series which is fitting because Crowley seems like kind of an homage to the Voorhees character and is a very similar unstoppable <more>
man/creature . Scream queen Danielle Harris returns to play the lead heroine, Marybeth, for the second time after replacing Tamara Feldman from the original film . Caroline Williams, Zach Galligan and Derek Mears all co-star in the film all are well known from multiple other horror films, Mears has also played 'Jason Voorhees' . The film is written once again and executive produced by series creator Adam Green but he handed over directing duties this time to BJ McDonnell a first time director who was a camera operator on the other two films . The movie is just more of the same, as the other two films, but if you're a fan of the franchise you're sure to love it!The film, like the last installment, picks up right where the previous film left off; with Marybeth Harris killing Victor Crowley Hodder . He's of course not dead though, even though Marybeth blew away his face and sawed him in two! She later learns from an expert on the Crowleys, Amanda Williams , that Victor is a supernatural monster that can only be killed by Marybeth, through a special voodoo ritual. After turning herself into the police, soaked in blood and carrying Victor's scalp, she's arrested as a suspect for the Crowley murders. As the police investigate the killings, in Honey Island Swamp, they learn that Victor Crowley is still alive and he's going on yet another killing rampage killing them . Amanda's ex-husband, Sheriff Fowler Galligan , leads a rescue team into the swamp and teams with a mercenary, named Hawes Mears . At the same time Marybeth teams with Amanda, for one last attempt to destroy Victor Crowley once and for all.The movie is once again full of gratuitous violence and gore but it's so ridiculously over-the-top that's it not even disturbing or disgusting to me. Some people will probably have a problem with it but no one who enjoyed either of the last two films should. Like I said it's almost the exact same content again as the last film at least but it's still fun and original, in the new ways it comes up with to kill people. I can't see why anyone who liked the last two films would dislike this one. Green didn't direct it but it seems like he did he must have been whispering in McDonnell's ear the whole time . I love the series and I love this film equally as much as the last installment. The original is still the best but these sequels are about as much as a fan could expect. Victor Crowley is a classic movie villain and I, for one, hope to see more of him.Watch our movie review show 'MOVIE TALK' at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v q9OJ5gcVSN0
Good old fashioned bloody gory horror fun. (by Michael-Hallows-Eve)
I watched this film last night. I've seen the other two, and this one for me is about as good as the first. It had some of my favorite horror stars in it Danielle Harris, Derek Mears, Kane Hodder, Sid Haig, Sean Whalen, and Caroline Williams . I think you have to be a true old school horror movie fan to appreciate films like this as they use old school effects and over the top blood and gore, which I love. The story is obviously predictable because of that reason, lots of death scenes, and easy to understand plot line. It carries on from the second as did the previous movie, so if you <more>
haven't seen the other two then you may not get some of what is happening, but in saying that it isn't hard to pick it up. I've heard that they are going to release the three movies as one big movie down the track, and because they carry on from each other, I can see how easy it would be done. Now I liked this film like I said earlier , as it was entertaining and fun to watch as a true horror fan. Don't want to ruin it for others but > SPOILER ALERT < I think this COULD be the last in the series. I give this movie an 8 out of 10.
HATCHET III Rolls Forth Without Losing Momentum! - *SPOILERS ALERT* (by HalphStaph)
Just watched it - it was at least comparable to the first 2, so in my estimation, it succeeded in the entertainment level I hoped for and expected. For what it is, the films remain comedic, over the top slash and gore with some originality in execution ha ha Groannnnn - and of course, the ever increasing number of people they throw at V.Crowley... And yes, the main character protagonist remains the same. Plus... movie timeline wise, this is night #3 consecutively. Oh, and the Asian actor is back, as someone else - a recurring side bit I rather enjoy.Slasher fans, Hatcheteers - don't give <more>
this one a pass. Get your popcorn, gather your friends, usurp the big screen from whatever game is being played or sporting event being yelled at and have f-u-n! I do see number IV coming... I wonder how many military will end up on scene? Since they are almost to touch down already.... hehehe. Enjoy folks!
