why oh WHY did some of you the complainers GO to this movie????? (by imizrahi2002)
first of all, i'm glad there's less than 100 reviews so far... maybe some of you wondering about whether to see this movie will see this... i gave it a 10 b/c the rating, at this point, REALLY doesn't reflect how good this movie is... i would usually give it, let's say, a 6.8, out of respect for other movies above this rating. but, otherwise, i'd give it a 7.0. which here is high. and it deserves it... WHAT, complainers, were you LOOKing for??? GEE...i wonder if a movie titled 'i, Frankenstein' is going to be realistic??? why can't you just let the storyteller <more>
tell their story instead of having figured out how it SHOULD go, beforehand...i want to see ONE of you make a better movie...go ahead. SHOW me... i'm sorry i didn't see this in the theater...and i could've at no extra charge since i have a subscription for 'all i can eat movies' at one of the movie chains here in good old Netherlands. very appropriate place to see this movie, considering this name for the country and the subject matter of the movie... look. i've been seeing movies since the mid 50s. THOUsands of movies... you want to talk movies? talk to ME...yeah...there are people who've seen/know more. i'm not in any 'contest'. i just love a good story, well told... and this movie DEFinitely qualifies as one of THE better popcorn, Saturday afternoon action/adventure movies that i've seen in yeeeeeears. man...MANY of those overrated marvel comic movies and i used to LOVE marvel comics when i was coming up don't hold a candle to this movie... imaginative too, for many who decided to give us their s**t for brains opinions. one of the drawbacks of 'anyone can write a review' situations, of curse sic story...GREAT use of special effects i don't use the term CGI, sorry. old school...obviously . Bill Nighy. what ELSE does one WANT??? OK. it's not 'amadeus' or 'les miserables' weeeeeell, ACTUALly... whoops! can't say anything in that direction. didn't check the spoiler box. ;- ...but i was hoping people would realize that from the title... the fights weren't overly long or every other second of the film... and i don't remember one line of dialogue that made me cringe... OK. it wasn't complex. once we know the story, it stays with it. and i thought it was enjoyable just the same. i don't always NEED a complex story if the basics are well done. and wasn't overly long, either. some movies just don't have the good sense to be shorter... THINK they have more to say...but i wind up sitting in my seat thinking, 'isn't this OVER yet?'. nope. not this one... this was all a surprise to me, btw...like i said above, i passed on seeing this kinda for free. in IMAX and 3D i think. it WAS in 3D in the theaters, right? , yet...that woulda made it even better... kinda like the harryhausen films i used to love when i was younger... anyways...if you got this far, i'm hoping to've convinced you to give it a chance... no. it's not going to make you any smarter. but it's DEFinitely a good excuse to eat some popcorn...
I am a big fan of this genre of movie. This however was one of the only movies I really had no interest in seeing, I didn't look into it and I only randomly saw commercials for it. It was my husband who kept going on about how he couldn't wait to see it and how good it looked. All I can say now is that thankfully I didn't come to IMDb to look up what people were saying about I, Frankenstein. If I read the reviews posted here I would never have suggested we go see it the other night as a treat for him. The amount of bashing and bad reviews this movie has gotten has been ridiculous. <more>
I honestly don't know what people expect going into a movie, especially those who go in expecting something to be exactly how a book, or graphic novel, was. Things are never the same, sometimes that is good and sometimes it is bad.I, Frankenstein has its good and bad points, the good by far outweighs the bad. The first bit of cgi in the beginning left me thinking, "this is going to suck." But it didn't, I'm not sure if they screwed up editing the movie and just didn't finish that scene or what but none of the rest of the cgi looked like that one scene. Part of the storyline should have been introduced right away rather then it being mentioned much later and some of the other story line could have been introduced differently. But too, that can be over looked after seeing the whole movie. What made I, Frankenstein worthwhile for us, as we both loved it, was the fact that it was going back to how, yes i'll say it too, the Underworld movies were. Those movies were fun, they were enjoyable! When I recognized all the actors from those movies, it made it that much better, it was like catching a glimpse of an old friend and getting one of those silly little grins it causes. People have even bashed this movie for it's lack of an R rating... really? Why does that matter? I'm perfectly fine with it's rating, it didn't need to be changed. Blood and gore is not always necessary and why would you need nudity in this movie? Is that what people need to enjoy movies these days? I'll take the special effects this movie had any day over those things. The gargoyle graphics were fantastic, the demons were alright, great concept for their deaths, the fight sequences weren't so quick you couldn't make anything out which was a nice change. To put it simply, as a lot of people just read the end of the reviews. This movie is great if you want to have fun and especially if you enjoyed the Underworld movies. Go in without expectations of what you think should happen in the movie. The only one who can truly decide if they like the movie is you. But honestly, I would have been upset if I missed seeing this movie because I had read the bad reviews.
Honestly, I Loved This Film (by ScourgetheDarkClaw)
I cast much doubt upon this film when it first came out in January 2014 due to its greatly negative reviews. Since then, however, I have remembered it and always wondered just how bad it might be. I finally received the chance to watch it, and I have learned, yet again, you cannot trust the critics and their reviews. It seems that these critics thought too into the film, and some might have believed it was based upon the novel by Mary Shelley, which would cause much negativity due to its inspiration-only stance towards the novel. Based on the graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, who also stars in <more>
the film in a supporting role, the story follows Frankenstein's monster, who has lived to the present day over 200 years after his creation. When a great threat that could destroy all of humanity arises, he realizes he is the only one who can stop it. Now, as I watched the movie, and even before, I knew this film was not going to be on the same level as masterpieces such as The Shawshank Redemption or Young Frankenstein, nor would it be on the same level as films such as The Avengers or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I saw this as a monster film, which I find much different than most films, meaning that I don't look at the plot as much as I would those aforementioned films. While it is a factor, I also look at the action, visuals, and performances, which are what led me to love the film so much. The action is nonstop, like many movies of the last few years such as Transformers , and the visuals accompany this factor, which help make the movie so amazing. Despite a $65 million budget nowadays, many films are above $100 or even $200 million just for that , the CGI is well-done, and the creatures throughout the movie are completely passable. But the movie would not be complete without the great cast. Aaron Eckhart The Dark Knight, Olympus/London Has Fallen , Bill Nighy Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part One , Yvonne Strahovski Chuck, Batman: Bad Blood , Miranda Otto The Lord of the Rings Trilogy , and Jai Courtney Divergent, Jack Reacher, Suicide Squad all give outstanding performances as Adam Frankenstein's monster , Charles Wessex, Terra Wade, Leonore, and Gideon, and that is what helped make the whole movie for me. Finally, the score by Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil is a welcome addition to the film, and it helps the film become even more of a grand spectacle, because, as I believe, no film is truly complete without a great score to match, with few exceptions. In conclusion, though it is somewhat rushed near the middle and has some pacing issues, this film proved to me that one cannot simply trust the critics, and that it is better to go off your own opinion in the end. All in all, my final opinion is that I loved this movie. 'Nuff said.
Why the low rating when its actually good (by echipare)
I find this film better than other story about Frankenstein, Why the low ratings when its actually good and certainly not to be categorize as one of those cheap made movies.Aaron Eckhart made a good performance, including the other actors. He has this nice persona depicting Frankenstein as hero and not as a monster. The only thing I see lacking is the gargoyles and demons isn't that believable, but as long as the story and plot is good, its plausible. Its a good movie even if there is no love story involve and I highly recommend it more likely if your into Gothic and super human like <more>
Far better than expected, and a lot of fun (by sheilah-953-788608)
I went into this movie with very low expectations... I mean really low, think Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Hansel and Gretel low expectations. You are probably wondering why on earth I then went to it? well, a friend invited me, and I hadn't seen him in a while, so I figured "meh"This movie blew me away, I had such low expectations, and this movie was so well done. It's not a classic, but it is a ton of fun to watch, and you truly get absorbed into the story. The story itself is actually really interesting, I love the new take on fantasy, one that I haven't heard <more>
before. At the end I realized it was based off of a comic book series, which I am actually going to try to pick up now because I found the story so interesting. The graphics of the movie were really good, and I like the design of the fantasy characters and the costumes. I thought it was really well done. The script was good, not great, nothing to take away as a quote, but nothing that made me roll my eyes thinking "this is dumb".The acting was really good, and I was surprised how even minor characters were very good in their roles. I thought Aaron Eckhart did a great job, and I was actually very surprised when Bill Nighy appeared I will admit, my first thought was "but.. he's a vampire" .
The trailer to this movie was bad and first I didn't want to go see it but my sister insisted. If you expect this movie to be about the book you will be disappointed . This is an action movie based ,I understand , on a graphic novel. The movie has good action , the gargoyles, demons are not that silly as they look in the trailer. The motivation of the bad guy for hunting down the man Frankenstein brought to life actually makes sense and yes at the end they give a good reason for calling the movie I.Frankenstein. I also loved the fact that the main character brings in help when he goes after <more>
the bad guy . Usually we see the hero killing 100 people alone.I loved this movie.
Doesn't deserve the overwhelming negative reviews (by helmutty)
With a miserable 5% on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems like I, Frankenstein is one of the worst movies in 2014 and it is only January. The abysmal rating made me lower my expectations and surprisingly it is a solid entertainment. Sure, it doesn't impress on any level but for a January movie, it is an entertaining one.The story: The story is as generic as a Direct-To-DVD movie can be. The Frankenstein's Monster, Adam, is caught in a battle between Gargoyles and Demons. Many decent action and 'dramatic' scenes are squeezed into the brief runtime of 1 hour 32 minutes. Thankfully the <more>
pace moves briskly without becoming boring. However, the short runtime also poses some problems such as skimping on characters' development. But it is expected as this is a mindless action movie which relies more on action and CGI than story and characters' development. Acting wise is okay, nobody impresses. Bill Nighy is playing his usual self as a villain. Aaron Eckhart has nothing much to emote as an emotionless monster except fighting and showing off his body. The rest didn't particularly stand out. Music is surprisingly good and fits the tone of the movie.3D: For a post-converted 3D movie, it looks good. There is a good depth between characters and backgrounds. It is also effective when it comes to action scenes especially the flying of Gargoyles and the bursting of the demons.Overall: It is obvious that I, Frankenstein tries to follow the success of the Underworld movies. On its own merits, it provides an entertaining watch with decent special effects and action. I guess it could do better if it is released straight to DVD. It may not be great but for a January movie, it is a decent watch with decent 3D.
A humanized version of an iconic Hollywood creature. (by PWNYCNY)
Stop beating up on this movie. It does not deserve such shoddy treatment. This is not a bad movie. It's part sci-fi, part horror, with the emphasis on the former. The Frankenstein creation is humanized. There is nothing wrong with that. The movie successfully places the creature in the present. He even has a name. Aaron Eckhart delivers a wonderful performance as the first artificially created humanoid. He gives his character depth. This movie is not a ripoff of the original movie. True, the story is contrived, but it is also entertaining. The forces of good and evil are clearly defined <more>
and their struggle for supremacy plausible within the context of the story. The movie asks the audience to accept as a premise that there are metaphysical forces at work that are not readily discernible. For some, that may be a bit of a stretch, but remember: it's a movie. The movie is entertaining, well-acted, has good continuity and a briskly paced story. This movie is worth watching.
Don't get where all these negative comments come from. I, Frankenstein isn't that bad.I very much liked the new take on the story but it seems like a lot of you guys just wanted to see a remake of the original. Well just watch the original than. Aaron Eckhart plays the role of the tormented monster excellent. I also liked Yvonne Strahovski's performance. Overall the cast was very good. The special effect where great what makes watching the fights very entertaining. I read a lot of reviews where they say that it all looked very fake and copied. Well it did't to me. In my eyes it <more>
was worth watching and deserves an 8/10. If however you hope to see the tale of Frankenstein like it was in the original movie this maybe isn't for you.
