An absolutely delightful movie for everyone (by carlson_7) |
An ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL MOVIE!!!Great family fun...one of his best.I look forward to Jim on SNL later tonight.I really enjoyed the interaction between Carrey and the penguins.Very believable.Superb ending!!!I really enjoyed listening to the laugher of children in the audience.A hit i highly recommend anyone to see.Angela Lonsbury is fantastic as are the 2 children.Good use of Tavern By the Green and the Guggeniem Museum.Strong message workaholic fathers should listen to.Its good to see Carey back in a true comic role instead of one totally unrealistic.I hope there is a sequel <more> |
Best Live Action Family Film in Years (by phoenix_slayer2001) |
Mr. Popper's penguins brings back the charm of animal-centered family features like "Beethoven," "Dunston Checks In, and "Monkey Trouble." This movie definitely allows the viewer to see what CGI is capable of because the penguins look completely real especially to a child and only because of the way the penguins behave or move in parts is it obvious they cannot be real. This movie also has much of the charm of "Liar Liar" with a similar family situation and highlights the importance of certain family values. Jim Carrey's performance is of course the <more> |
I Liked It!! (by davidtraversa-1) |
I'm so sick and tired of movies about dreadful people, drugs, violence, blood all over the screen... I was reticent about watching this movie, since my taste is already twisted by so may car crashes and decapitated bodies, but it was one of those things, a friend lent me this DVD and since I liked Jim Carrey so much in "I Love You Phillip Morris" I decided to watch this film, seeing Angela Lansbury was in it also. So: I LOVED IT!I read several of the previous reviews fortunately AFTER I watched the picture and noticed that many of those reviewers are excellent Special Effects <more> |
Nice (by danshuynh) |
We go to movies as a family – my wife and I with our two children, nine and six years old. We are looking for family fare that Mom and Dad can at least abide. It's not easy.Mr. Popper's Penguins, though, filled the bill nicely. It's a tad formulaic. For instance, early on we see a boy neglected by his Dad via flashbacks showing the boy waiting for his Dad to call via the ham radio from some far off outpost. We never really see the dad. The movie formula requires that the boy grow up to neglect his own kids, and sure enough the formula is followed. In the end, so goes the <more> |
Sweet, funny, & charming! (by chicka91) |
OK. I loved the classic book, Mr. Popper's Penguin's when I was a child. Just by seeing the previews, I knew that this movie would not go by the book much at all. With that mindset, I just sat back and enjoyed the story. I really liked this movie! It was great!First of all, I can't believe people rating and reviewing this movie are upset that the humor was not rude and crude enough for them. This is a family/children's film, rated PG. When watching & reviewing, you should always keep this in mind. If you're an adult and can't stand a pg movie, you should probably <more> |
A truly fun movie for the family! (by henry_yan) |
This is one of Jim Carrey's better films. Gone are the zany antics, off-the-wall humour and other annoying gestures. What you get is a wholesome family entertainment, coupled with a bunch of adorable penguins. When a busy father neglects his family for the sake of his career, it takes a gift from his own father to realise just what a terrible mistake he is making. That gift comes in the a brood of penguins who, for some reason, takes a liking to silent movies : Finally, the father understands what family is all about. An excellent time for everyone. The children will be delighted, I <more> |
A great family comedy that got me a few laughs (by gavin-thelordofthefu-48-460297) |
After seeing the trailer for this movie, I've finally got the chance to see it today at the 1:30 premiere in AMC Theaters. I'll write the plot before I make my opinion. It revolves around Tom Popper Jim Carrey , a businessman who spends most of his time with his life instead of his family. One day, after his father dies, he receives a crate which contains all six penguins who then turns his life upside-down. Learning that he has to love them, he does whatever he can to take care of them at any costs. To those who read the book, I've read the book as well, but this movie is loosely <more> |
Mr. Popper's Penguins - Who Needs Animation Anyway? (by shatteredrifle) |
Mr. Popper's Penguins tells the story of Popper Jim Carrey , a successful and ambitious property agent who gets sent six penguins by his estranged father. These new arrivals quickly turn his life into an arctic mess, which at first horrifies him but then slowly teaches him about what he's missing out in life. These little fellows may, after all, bring out the best in him. Now, before anything is said about anything else, let me just say that the penguins featured in this film were beyond adorable. It was pure joy to see them filling up the big screen with their antics. They slide, <more> |
Hop on down to Mr. Pop! Its darling stuff! (by inkblot11) |
Mr. Popper Jim Carrey is a very successful real estate broker in Manhattan. Unfortunately, he is so driven that his beautiful wife, Amanda Carla Gugino decided to get a divorce and she has main custody of their two children, Janie Madeline Carroll and Billy. The kids don't even want to spend the weekend in their dad's plush penthouse. Popper's bad parenting skills, however, are somewhat the result of his own father, who traveled the world and had little time for his only son. The two have not seen each other in years. Meanwhile, Mr. P is trying hard to get a longtime <more> |
