We rarely get to see a good fantasy movie. Not about fairy tales or Ancient Greece. No, a fantasy world with elves, orcs, gods and other creatures living together. The party of heroes travel for a quest, fighting monsters during the journey. The main cast is likable are the costumes are top notch. We got a fighter, an thief always looking to get the ladies, a mage you can easily sympathize with, and a priestess. In the movie is present an INN where adventures meets. Where they search for quests and look for jobs. It uncovers a world where monsters are very common yet the people are someones <more>
you can identify with.We get to nice locations, snow covered towns and woods, dark caves and lakes.A movie I would recommend to anyone who played a D&D campaign.
Wow, I was expecting bad, and found a gem (by the_doofy)
This is one of the better D&D style movies i've watched, and I watch them all.The special effect are sub par, so a lot of youngish viewers are going to crucify this gem. Acting B, costume B+, Plot B, Storyline B+, special effects C good stuff on the mage/witch though , dialogue C +, direction A-, music B+, sword fight scenes D, homegrown magic scenes B+.After watching this I had my wife watch it, and she liked it quite a bit, and thats no mean feat for a fantasy. I was particularly impressed with how the character development was done with out viewer knowledge. Since I am now middle <more>
age, I've had a bellyful of special effects and movie glitter, I look for overall quality, I don't need state of the art effects if the rest is good, i actually kind of enjoy it.Since I am familiar with the whole D&D thing, although I don't role play anymore since a stint in high school, I was impressed on how the movie adhered to that universe, pretty impressive feat overall.I suppose the fight scenes could use more realistic choreograph in terms of sword stuff, but the gritty down to earth magic stuff compensated for itThe costumes and magic are more real then I am used to seeing in these style movies. Clothing was kind of disheveled and soily, magic was earthy, desperate and hurried--overall this movie was a real treat
A Really Good Movie, Can't Wait For The Sequel (by enterkaras)
This is a really good B movie the characters are lovable the Magician Marek and Priestess Teela are both beautiful. I very much enjoyed this movie. I'm giving it 8 stars because of the cast, story, costumes etc. I'd say some of the effects in here were pretty good like all necromancy parts. But horrible for the spiders for instance, the Ogre, looked pretty good in some shots, but the movements were well, eh. The cave, mountains, and snowy landscape, give it a nice touch. You do feel for the pretty Marek who has a disability on her left leg which makes her limp but don't let that <more>
fool you it doesn't make her weak in the slightest bit. She will go to dangerous lengths to save her friends even if it means losing her own life.
I saw the 4,7 here and I was already a bit afraid. And in the first 5 minutes there where some special effects that almost let me stop watching it. And then began the fun. And this movie is about the love of AD&D and it is well played and I have seen big blockbusters with way bigger plot holes. the four main characters have a nice development. And for the love of AD&D - Wizard, Fighter, Thief and Priest. Love the wizard part.If you love a nice movie about AD&D - this is one for you. Just get through the first 5/10 minutes. those are not the best but it will get a lot better :D
Another wonderful surprise from Arrowstorm Entertainment (by siderite)
I've been a loud advocate of Saga: The Shadow Cabal movie. It was a film with a good story, character development, realistic fights and obvious dedication from all concerned. While some other Arrowstorm movies were not so fortunate, that movie's quality by itself has kept me interested in watching everything they come up with. Mythica is not as good as Saga, in my opinion, but it comes damn close and, what's more important, it does so while being a completely different type of movie. But first, let's get Kevin Sorbo out of the way. Despite his many horrible performances, I <more>
still like the guy and wait for him to do something really good. Mythica is not it because Sorbo doesn't really play in this film. He has a very small role as a wizard from which the main character has learned spells, then he leaves. It's the kind of bait-and-switch thing that I DO NOT appreciate.Luckily, the rest of the story and the characters were entertaining and, rarely seen these days, following an actual script. Not an adaptation of a book, not actor improvs, a real story, with a start, and believable characters. Bravo! Even better, the lead protagonist is a woman. Not a scaredy cat, not a damsel in distress, not an idol of pure virginal goodness, not a scantily dressed big breasted warrior, but a complex person, with both good, bad, and ugly, and a motivation that made sense. Not everything is rosy though. The sound quality was bad. I know doing good sound is difficult and expensive, but it was one of the more damaging flaws of the film. Then the story is more like an episode in a series. It starts with an orc attack, looking for a magical stone, but by the end of the film - complete with a to be continued - nobody explains what the stone does and why it is important. A good introduction for the characters, it probably continues the story in Mythica 2, for which they just released the trailer. That's not to say that the film cannot stand alone. This is not some 50 page story split into three films, it's just the first chapter of a saga that I can't wait to see how it unfolds.Personal wish, bring back Danielle Chuchran, she was awesome in SAGA and a female fighter that raised the bar to a level that the scenes in Mythica sadly do not reach. Other than that, great fun film, congratulations Arrowstorm!
I loved this movie. Their are many big budget films that don't satisfy me. Many have lacked a real story and depend on big budget CGI. BLEH! I much prefer a story with heart. I have found that in this movie. I've been watching, reading, playing and game mastering fantasy adventure for almost 40 years and I loved this movie. Yea, it could be more polished, and yea the special effects could be more spectacular, but I loved the story and the characters and the music and the actors. I am looking forward to watching and owning the rest of these. I want to see these characters form their <more>
bonds, overcome great odds, show us the meaning of courage, perseverance and friendship. Please keep them coming!
