I'd rather watch this than a Samuel L Jackson version (by bairdy_box)
I don't know about the rest of you but I thought for all it was a little campy and stuff it was fun to watch. Hasselhoff ha a reputation that precedes him in most his works but i thought he definitely looked the part. He was just about the exact spitting image of Fury in the comics and i've yet to see a marvel movie or series that truly shows an actor looking exactly like the character in the comics. To be fair the film was made for TV and couldn't have benefited from a great budget but they still included the hellicarier, hydra and James bond like gadgets that made the character <more>
fun in the comics in the first place. I think it's unfair to compare it up against any of the big budget Spider-mans or x-mens because clearly this was intended as a pilot for a series and didn't have a great polish to it but why are comic fans getting so serious these days what happened to opening a comic book and just getting sucked into the fun and adventure.Compared to what they're doing now in the ultimates with fury I think this ain't as bad as everyone says it is. What a cheap shot to draw a character to resemble a famous actor just in the hopes of roping them into maybe making a big budget live action movie. it makes me sick . The magic I remember as a kid of high adventures written and drawn by Stan lee and co seems lost forever. All it's about now is making cash by having 10 issue arcs that go nowhere but instead tarnish our beloved characters. I'm all for change and progression in comics but why change fury to be an African American simply for racial equality. What happened to creating new multi racial characters it all seems a bit pointless. But sorry I'm straying from my initial point. If you haven't seen it, try and give it a look. If you like it great if not then thats a shame because personally I'd rather watch this than a Samuel L Jackson version.
I couldn't agree more with the reviewer who compared the film version of Fury with Snake Plissken. This is a dead-on description of the only "great" David Hasselhoff performance to date. This is one of only a handful of made-for-tv Marvel movies that is truly watchable. I've seen it over a dozen times and it keeps getting better. This isn't Shakespeare, after all, its a comic book movie. Its not supposed to be taken seriously.
Magnificent Hasselhoff (by gorgonos)
First of all, I gave this film a 10/10! It's Hasselhoff at his best! The truly not-talented actor and personality that we love. His acting is wonderfully pathetic, it's what made him famous, along with his "good" looks. I recommend it to all the true fans of David!! I just cannot understand something: at the scene when Hasselhoff comes in, we watch him banging the wall with a pick... Now, maybe it's just me, but...DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE? Why would he do that? The rest of the film doesn't help us to unravel this mystery. A wonderfully surreal film, if I ever saw <more>
It would have made a great series. (by Moonlit_Knight)
Truthfully, for a made for TV movie, it was actually pretty good. I liked the actors playing the subordinate roles. The special effects were passable since this was not a full feature film. The only problem I had was that the actress playing Viper was way, way too hammy. As for David Hasselhoff beside the fact that it was David Hasselhoff, which I overlooked , I thought he really looked the part of a retired Nick Fury. He captured the Nick Fury mannerisms pretty well. Too bad the audience didn't give him the pass that were given to other actors from bad series cough, Smallville, cough . <more>
I would have really liked a series made of Nick Fury. If the critics were as harsh on the Star Trek series as they were on this movie, Star Trek would never have survived. And most of the early episodes in each of the Star Trek series were far worse than this movie. Give this movie a break. We all missed out on seeing Nick Fury every week. Which is a shame because it would have only gotten better!
Personally, i think that if you are a fan of Stan lee in anyway you will enjoy this movie..granted its a made for TV movie from 98' so its kinda old, but i think they did really well with what they had.I don't understand how people can think it was funny or stupid to cast David Hasselhoff, i honestly think he was the best man for the job. much better than Samuel Jackson in the up coming avengers movies. If you enjoyed Iron man or the incredible hulk at all, then this would be a good movie to watch to get a little background info on the nick fury character.
