Absolutely crazy and enjoyable franchise entry (by kannibalcorpsegrinder)
Needing some more income, a recently-divorced man decides to bring his relatives' antique dolls to a memorabilia exhibit only to realize the dolls in his possession are involved in decades-old murders and that evil forces will stop at nothing to get their hands on the deadly creatures. This was such an exciting and enjoyable effort in the franchise. Among the many entertaining aspects found here is the fact that this one adds such a dark and brutal addition to the series. From the very beginning, with the puppets being shown to be an active presence in some rather frenzied action, it gets <more>
this started on a rather brutal tone which is only enhanced by the rest of the actions shown here. The tour at the exhibit museum that recounts the history of the puppets and their master which adds a different legacy and history to the franchise than usually featured which all comes as a nice element here. That also goes to include the look and activities of the dolls themselves, which is incredibly worthwhile. The dolls are redesigned to look somewhat darker and more brutal than in the past but still retain quite familiar features so that we can tell who's who in here, an element that adds considerably to the serious tone of the film as a whole. Likewise, the viciousness of their attacks is also a standout as the gore here is incredibly well-done. From having their scalp ripped off their head to being sliced by the flying toy across the neck to be decapitated, having an infant ripped out of a pregnant woman's belly from the inside out and being repeatedly stabbed beyond recognition by the dolls in short, quick, brutal strikes, the rampages they carry out in the various attacks throughout the hotel which are done practically and manages to create such an impressive amount of crazy action during these attacks that it's fun to watch. Along with a fine series of battles in the darkened hotel for the finale and some fine nudity along the way, these manage to give this a lot of incredibly impressive elements over its flaws. About the only real issue here is the minor changes to be found in the storyline. Even though this is allowed to change the storyline around, the way it does so is rather disheartening by letting the nominal hero of the story become the new villain of the piece. There's little reason why that even occurs here since there's such a weak motivation to get him involved in the action once it gets going that it's even more pronounced with it's weaker rationale. That in turns also comes into play with the abrupt finale that purposefully sets up a sequel but seems like a cop-out on the stand-alone basis. Still, these are nowhere near that detrimental and don't hold this back all that much at all.Rated Unrated/R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Nudity.
The Best Puppet Master Ever Made!!!!! (by stevepuppetmaster)
This is the best remake I have ever seen! I personally hate remakes of movies but ever since Full Moon broke away from Paramount back in the mid 90's every sequel after part 5 was total garbage in my opinion! The special effects, the acting, and production value went down hill and the Sci-fi Channel movie Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys got my hopes up, it had better actors and a bigger budget but still that film let me down as well, it was crap! I used to wish that someone in Hollywood could buy the rights to the franchise and give me a Puppet Master film worth watching and now I am <more>
excited to say that my dream came true thanks to Cinestate's remake!! The production value is top notch! The actors were great! The 100% practical special effects used are through the roof!! They are way better than the first 5's stop motion and all the other crappy sequels rod puppet effects! The story twist was great, love the fact that the Puppet Master was a demented evil Nazi and that his puppets were just as evil!! This movie pushes a boundary of our current Political Correctness and it will certainly offend the nowadays butt hurt cry babies due to the puppets acting out hate crimes, but that's what the Nazis were all about! I love the redesigns of the original puppets and the new ones were awesome!! The Littliest Reich offers up the most violent bloodshed ever made for a Puppet Master film and at certain times it had some good humor!! The reviews for the movie speak for themselves, one certain critic says it is the craziest God damn movie of 2018 and boy was he right!! I love this movie, my only complaint is it wasn't long enough, it left me wanting more and I sure hope we get sequels with one wish please, bring back 6 shooter with a new design!! Thank you Cinestate for making my dream come!!!!
This is what Puppet Master Axis Termination should've been (by ruizjaime)
Loved this movie and can't wait to see if they do a sequel to this. This version of Puppet Master is lightyears better than what we have been getting from Fullmoon as of the last few Axis films, this film is very dark, gritty, guerrilla style, and no nonsense. The score for the film is very good too....not like in the Axis films where they have six shooter shooting and they play campy cowboy music in the background. This film is the tone that PM Axis Termination should've been. Fullmoon has lost it's touch on the PM films and made em more comedy and campy than horror. Luckily <more>
someone else has picked up the reigns and brought it back to it's original glory.
One of the year's best & one of the best reboots, period (by quridley)
I am blown away by how excellent this first movie-watching experience was. Finally we get a reboot that delivers by creating a new continuity without plagiarizing or disrupting the source material. And unlike the well-meaning but unoriginal and lazy reboots coming out of Hollywood, "The Littlest Reich" isn't stifled by political correctness and trying to please everyone. Yet it doesn't sacrifice intelligent morals for its shock value. Its a simple yet clever premise based on the essential ingredients of a classic modern tale. Essentially its a dark spoof of the original film <more>
with the same motives but its own voice, style, universe, politics and point of view. Most importantly it only strengthens the subtext of the original story and showers it in obvious fandom. Where I think the screenwriter struck genius is making this a film for fans of the original first and foremost but still accessible to wider tastes, not the opposite. Too many reboots and sequels throw out the appeal of the old for eager accessibility by not studying the story mechanics that do or do not still work. This fella knows you have to have Nazis, puppets, slasher victims and 80s fanboy chic, but he finds new uses for all of these things. He fashions something personal from the first film and transplants it to a modern platform. The Puppet Master mythos is reinvigorated but NOT re-purposed. TLR echos the many obsessions, themes, tropes, aesthetics & appeal of the entire PM catalog, so it fits in like a jewel among its dated and meager family to uplift them to younger, hipper and maybe less educated critics who wouldn't expect so much value from a reboot of an 80s horror cheapie about killer dolls. This is why its not just great cinema, its a great meta meditation and pop cultural commentary on cinema itself. And I'm grateful that a modest indie production could still accomplish this in 2018.
This movie may not be for fans of the original series of Puppet Master films. It is quite possibly more violent than any of the prior. I, for one, believe that in a order for a movie about killers puppets to be somewhat shocking in 2018, you have to go all out with the gore. And it does. There are easily 21 scenes of puppets viscously slaughtering if not more people. It is demented and pleasantly mean spirited. It's exactly everything I've ever wished for in a Puppet master film. Thomas Lennon does well, including several other actors. If you don't like quality practical effect <more>
masterpieces of gore and prefer action and adventure puppets this is not for you. But if you want to see incredible splatter watch this.
I liked the death music. Once it started playing it was somebody's doom. Best puppet master by far.
Best Pupet master ever!!!! (by hooper-56103)
Possibly the most violent movie I have ever seen. With some nudity, humor thrown in to boot. If you like shameful fun. Then this is the flick for you.
An insane reboot. (by moviegeek86-934-730840)
When this was announced I didn't really think much about it. The series hasn't had a solid film since Puppet Master 5 in 1994. But than the reviews popped up online earlier this year and my interest went from low to extremely high. Is it as insane and fun as most reviews say?Hell yeah! This is the craziest movie of the year for me and it gave the franchise the shot in the arm it needed. I like Charles Band. I owe my childhood to him but Full Moon is crap these days. His focus is pimping out his merch and making non-stop Evil Bong films. The filmmakers of this wanted to give us a bloody <more>
thrill ride and delivered. The Littlest Reich is offensive, mean spirited and crazy. It feels like a Puppet Master made by Troma. Every single kill is drenched in so much blood it makes the Full Moon ones feel PG-13. The puppets are a mix of old and new and certain old ones have multiple versions. The only downside is because there's so many puppets certain ones get very little screen time. I wanted more tunneler! The main cast is great with some fun likable characters such as Cuddly Bear who deserves his own spin off film Most of the supporting characters have no development and only exist to be brutally murdered but I didn't go into this wanting to know the back story of two stoners and a jewish couple. I wanted puppet mayhem and got it.The only real downside for me is the anit-climatic finale. The movie ends with a big "To Be Continued" on the screen and I let out a sigh. A prequel is in the works but I rather have a sequel first. It didn't hurt the movie that badly but it did slightly affect my score.Fabio Frizzi did the score and it's great. He even includes stuff from his Fulci work and it puts a smile on my face. A new version of Richarld Band's Puppet Master theme is on the end credits. And the puppet effects are good for its budget. It's unfair to compare them to the original 5 films but the work here is head and shoulders above the Axis trilogy and all the gore is done practically. If you're a puppet master fan check it out ASAP. Even if you don't like the story choices they changed for this reboot the gorehound in you will LOVE the kills. For me the franchise is back and I couldn't be happier.
perfectly twisted film to introduce new gore fest fans to the Puppet Master franchise (by markthomassintek)
REVIEW - PUPPET MASTER - THE LITTLEST REICHThe reboot of the Puppet Master series is the biggest and goriest installment yet.Puppet Master is one of the longest-running horror franchises, but you rarely hear it mentioned with the same reverent tones as Halloween, Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street and of course Chucky. This is a gore fest, a blood bath or sheer twistedness guaranteed if you like the Puppet Master franchise you'll love this, except for the annoying police officer but when he finally.......Guaranteed there will be more because this film explains the origin of the <more>
puppets and why, so its a perfectly twisted film to introduce new gore fest fans to the Puppet Master franchise. Rating 8 out of 10
