Plot: Wolf, a Native American on the run after avenging his mother's murder, flees across the desolate American West on his motorcycle, where he'll discover that justice has a cost. Runtime: 91 mins Release Date: 12 Apr 2014
This movie has a Great cast and acting, stunning scenery and backdrops, and a cool soundtrack that got my feet tapping many a time. The story will make you ask yourself if taking the law into your own hands is the only option sometimes. You will fall in love with characters and hate others with very subtle acting. I like how they let the motorcycle riding tell a story too! Most films these days skip those moments out and just jump to a scene of a guy getting off a motorcycle, yet in this movie they let us see the actors riding with beautiful scenery all around them. Those scenes reminded me <more>
of Easy Rider and that is a great thing in my opinion. Good choice on the bikes too! This is more than just a road movie, you don't need to like Motorcycles to enjoy it. The foundation of the storyline can grab anybody and it simple to understand. That Cash guy would be a blast to hangout with, how much trouble could you get into with that guy, hey? : Good job!
cuz its a journey worth coming along for. jason at the helm as director and WOW you nailed it. this film was just what i was looking for one afternoon. may you offer us more glances into stories, characters and songs to share with us.the road is leading to Peace. will it be a happy ending? will we glimpse some Truth lit by smoke along the way? i encourage you the reader and potential participant to find out.some said the viewpoint of Robert Wolf is one-sided. Who cares? It's his story and this film delivers..thx jason, lisa and all involved with this project. i've watched it with my <more>
family of four including a 2yr old and a 4yr old, an' we'll watch it many more times i'm sure.cheers, lee
I am a huge Jason Momoa fan so was very excited to see he had made his own film. The film itself has a very good story and all actors involved are brilliant. The cinematography is beautiful which adds to the story. Sound track is cool and gritty, much like the feel of the film. There is humor as well as bare knuckle action, again, adding to the general feel of the film. Momoa is a beast, a total badass but his character has a very well portrayed soft side as well. The supporting actor, played by Robert Homer Mollohan, is the comic relief in the film. Great addition to the duo.The film is well <more>
What if a someone attacked your rights or even the worst attack on a member of your family and the worse than that justice does not take your rights, what to do in this difficult situation, especially you do not want to give up your rights and trust that you will never feel sorry to take your rights, 'well' this film details this painful event, I see this film as one of the great films I've ever seen
A Small Piece of Art (by frightened_inmate_number_two)
I discovered this movie after i started watching Game of Thrones some weeks ago. Jason Momoa got my attention after seeing his portrayal of Khal Drogo. I wanted to know more about this guy and see more of his work. So this movie was perfect for me, as he did not only act in it, he also co-wrote and directed 'Road to Paloma'.To be honest, i prepared myself to not like it very much. So i was pleasantly surprised after i finished it. The way they shot 'Road To Paloma' is so beautiful ... the landscapes, the settings, etc ... i constantly thought: awwww, this looks so wonderful. : <more>
It is not an action-filled movie. It's a small piece of art, wonderfully shot, with great acting overall, and a story about family and friendship, love and injustice. You can tell by watching Road to Paloma, that everyone involved in this movie, poured their hearts into it.An impressive directorial debut by Jason Momoa!
I for one think this film was an excellent work of art. The story was great in my opinion, and it honestly was a different type of tale. Going into the movie I knew the back story, since I had watched some of Jason Momoa's earlier interviews, where he had stated that a lot of serious crimes happen in the native area, but are not taken seriously by the public. This film shows the different aspects of Jason Momoa's work and greatness! I can see why he was tired of being type-cast as the big tough guy - and hopefully this film changes people's thoughts about him and his work. <more>
Momoa's acting was very strong, as was the writing and the directing! The directing was just awesome - the wide shots were amazing and it really captured the beauty of land and natural structures.Lastly, the soundtrack was phenomenal and let's not forget Robert Mollohan's portrayal as Cash. His performance was really under-shadowed, and he really deserves some recognition. In conclusion, I feel this movie was amazing. With a mere $600,000 budget, the cast and the story were outstanding. Being tired of sequels and prequels, this is an original tale, which is definitely worth a watch.
As I sat in the movie theater watching Road to Paloma, Clint Eastwood came to mind. Just for a moment I thought he directed this film, however it is the directorial debut of Jason Momoa, who also co-wrote and starred in the film as Wolf. The performances are low-key, the visuals tell the story, not a lot of dialogue, wonderful use of music, and the movie is leisurely and laid-back. It is about family, love, redemption, brotherhood, and justice. And it is also has an "Easy Rider" vibe. The Cinematography by Brian Mendoza is to be noted. I was immersed in Wolf's journey. Indie-style subterranean tension with a lighthearted face. *spoilers* (by gdeangel)
Road to Paloma and Joe, with Nicholas Cage, deal in essential the same moral dilemma, do modern laws do a better job at effecting justice than the suppressed truth that the weak are meat and the strong do eat to quote the homo-erotic, black-sploitation, trekian dud that was Cloud Atlas .But whereas Joe put the face of an irascible, end-of-his rope, sexually impotent, dead-end trailer park inhabiting, tree killing tough guy on the 11th hour self destructing deliverer of justice, Road to Paloma shows us a life-loving, even tempered, resourceful, smiling, respectful young Adonis running with <more>
the wind. Both are in for the same fate, but for Robert Wolf, it comes directly courtesy of the government. Joe is just unable to fight the "good" fight because of the local Sheriff, who in turn, is a pretty likable fellow. And in Paloma we have the same idea of the local federal officer who "get's it", but this time he has to serve the big-bad bogeyman from Washington. Then there the small matter of whether in your image of unfettered masculinity, your preferences tend to a salt-of-the-earth GMC truck or a vintage Harley with a suicide shifter. The riding scenes in Paloma certainly channel Easy Rider. Yet this film possibly does a better job of capturing real fraternal bond between riding buddies Cash and Wolf than the overly simplistic Fonda-Hopper "tripping balls and gross fornication" stuff that played well in the 60s, but seems sort of bizarre and pointless in a smelly-hippy way in 2014. Whereas we are pretty sure Robert Wolf and Cash bedding down on the open road smell like John Wayne's leather chaps on the cattle trail, we think Fonda and Hopper probably smell like a couple of gross guys with really bad BO who bath in a lake by the side of the road once a month. In fairness, Paloma is not likely to play well with the Sons of Anarchy fans. Not enough illicit crime and subterfuge. Not enough killing. Nor is it likely to win over the American Chopper / Biker Buildoff folks, who will no doubt scratch their heads at how you fix a radiator on a broken down Chevy with parts you've got stashed away in your saddlebags. Nonetheless, it is an enjoyable film, with perhaps one to many landscape backdrop shots, implausible plot timing, and a highly unsatisfying ending.
