a great job! (by keinematata) |
The most people are thinking critically VERY reluctantly. The story is just about this our peculiarity. Sometimes it is very good to watch this kind of a movie or to read this kind of a book. It keeps fit!All the actors did their jobs brilliantly, and the casting itself was on top as well. Greg Kinnear is very "recognizable", Pierce Brosnan is very "typical", Marisa Tomei and Jennifer Connelly both are very "comprehensible". Not to mention the dad Joe Hunt and the other small characters there... Simply a great job! The sense of humor is just the way I like it - <more> |

Very serious comical take on a single star system in the disbelief-suspended galaxy of organized religion and their Bonde-esque villains coloring it all. |
A very enjoyable Dark comedy (by med77_99) |
After going through a disappointing summer movie line up this year " 2011 " so far, i was more than happy when i found this film playing in a theater near by.And after watching this very enjoyable movie, i was left surprised in why it had a very limited release ? unlike most big budget summer movies, this movie focused on substance rather than style. it had a very engaging story that unfolds in a very intriguing way.the story is that of a well known Pastor played by Pierce Brosnan who gets involved in a debate with a disbeliever and writer played by Ed Harris, soon after, the pastor <more> |
Be Open Minded ... Religion is FUNNY! (by cindiluhoo) |
I grew up Southern Baptist and I thought this movie was laugh out loud funny. Of course, there was some predictable religious jokes. Lots of confusion & communication-based chaos with a karma-tic ending though a bit trite . Actually saw this movie September 2010 at a early release film screening where we were able to review the film afterward. I hope they re-shot the ending, as the conclusion was a bit abrupt. Overall, it was a great laugh. Pierce Brosnan is EXCELLENT as Rev. Dan Day. Stand out performances by Greg Kinnear and Marisa Tomei as well. Not sure if this film will be a small <more> |
Loved it (by mihhirnayak) |
Despite what the others here or at the Box Office say, I really liked this movie. It may not be an Oscar worthy movie but it isn't a terrible movie either. I'm a big Pierce Brosnan fan and while this isn't a James Bond style film, it is an interesting genre for Brosnan, especially after Mama Mia. Brosnan's depiction of an over the top preacher, Jennifer Connelly as the true believer, "Carl"'s role as the doubter in between the deadhead and the believer and the Security Guard as the druggie/ ex-deadhead are all really amazing !!I didn't like the ending that <more> |
Unique & Enlightening! (by mariedstewart) |
The movie wasn't as good as the subject matter. Sure it has great actors, Greg, Marissa, Jennifer & Ed but the person who got me stuck was the daughter. I watched it on a morning I wasn't feeling well, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Afterwards it left me wondering all day who was the actress playing the daughter? I'd recommend it to a non-deeply religious friend. It's definitely worth a lot of thought, especially for those that have questions. It is a satire comedy that follows the theory that a terrible thing can happen to a nice person. How a guy can be so ignorantly <more> |
Funny, or sad, because it's true (by lsmlaw92) |
I read some of the reviews posted, and I'm surprised by the low opinion some people had about the quality of the acting, the story, and the overall direction. I think the movie was pretty good, mostly because it rings true to me. I think I liked the movie, in part, because I found it to be comically or tragically true. Fundamentalists going to any length to protect their beliefs. Isn't that what we see every day in the new? Though admittedly, the news does not have the comic edge of this movie. Greg Kinnear is an excellent actor, and did a great job making it as comical as possible <more> |
