Keeps you guessing! (by lobo2588) |
The movie is very cleverly written. Three of Nikki's former lovers are brought together with no clue as to why. Through the sharing of their past experiences with her, they try to piece together her reason for their meeting. It's done in such a way that you are constantly draw possible conclusions and then throwing them out, only to bring them back once you learn something new. The comedy is clever and not overly goofy. The drama helps you connect with some characters while making you nervous about others. It makes for a thrilling mystery that's not too heavy, but still heavy <more> |
Amazing script & a highly entertaining execution. (by easlayton) |
This is a great movie. And as film, comics or any media writers/creators will tell you, the hardest scene is a couple of people sitting around a room or a table talking and keeping it interesting. This movie does just that in spades. And it's vastly entertaining. That's my point. If you understand that the practice of making that, people talking for the length of a movie, is the hardest thing to make entertaining, then just know I was fully entertained by this film. The script is brilliant and so is the directing. But take it from this guy; I don't like action movies if <more> |
Brilliant, cerebral, funny, engaging; fine acting, fine script. (by suite92) |
Zachary arrives at a bar because Nikki asked to meet her there. Miranda joins him at 8:00 pm. They talk, mostly about Nikki. Marvin shows up at 8:30, looking for Zachary and Miranda. The stories about Nikki continue. All three of them had received one sort of wonderful thing or another from Nikki, and all of them had been lied to in different ways.Miranda says that Nikki called her from an insane asylum, where Nikki had been found innocent by reason of insanity of murdering a stalker. They wonder whether any of this was true. Miranda says yes, she had googled Nikki's case, and found <more> |
This movie made me happy and post here! (by psycho_anomely) |
I have never written a review before and I most probably suck at it, but as the title says IT made me do this. What appealed to me before watching this movie was that 2 actors where in it who I loved from TV shows Buffy and Lost. They performed like I hoped, these being Seth Green and Harrold Perrineau. But I must say that I didn't care much for Michelle Trachtenberg in Buffy, but she was great in this!I'm a sucker for clever, funny, fast and weird conversations and this movie has all that. To me, and here comes a risky statement, this is the kind of stuff and conversations Tarantino <more> |
Deceivingly clever (by miles670) |
The other guy that reviewed this film as a disappointment is way off the mark in my opinion. The first scene didn't bode well it felt like the plot was going to be predictable so at that point I didn't expect to enjoy it. Luckily it's the only film I had so I watched anyway and despite that first scene the rest of the film was written perfectly and I can see how it drew such an interesting cast.I like mind games especially when they're executed with real intelligence along the lines of what some of the really good Japanese animators can pull off. The lead character in this <more> |
A one room adventure (by cekadah) |
What a fun movie to watch and try to figure out what is about to happen! The entire setting until the very end takes place at one table and 'the ladies room' in one bar. The characters are distinct and the conversation is clever and at times mysterious. Just what is Nikki up to?? You will have to see this movie if your are curious. Each actor gives a power performance and their interaction will keep you watching. I do not want to offer up any of the plot line because when I watched this movie I had no idea what it was about. It's one of those flicks in my opinion that makes you <more> |
Worth a look (by onetogrowon) |
Sexy Evil Genius exposes a couple, often forgotten, universal truths. The first: A close shaven Seth Green can pass for a fifteen year old, any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The second: Even absent a billion dollar budget, CGI, 3-D, spectacular shoot-outs, or gratuitous nude scenes, a decent script, coupled with impressive acting is, as always been, damn entertaining.I am content the above paragraph summed up my viewing experience of Sexy Evil Genius, however, the content gods of IMDb demand more input. To comment on the main character, the "genius", was she a manipulative, <more> |
Terrific play... engrossing film... (by mark-newman-1) |
Why hasn't this movie gotten more reviews? 11 at the last count! Well, it went straight to DVD, that's why. But that's a shame because it's a corker of a script and deserves a wider audience.A capable cast leads the audience through a twisty turny plot involving the ex-lovers of Nikki, a 'sexy evil genius.' She gathers them together in a bar for mysterious reasons that she baits them with through their meeting... but nothing is as it seems and no-one can be sure whether or not she's telling the truth. Come to think of it, there are questions of 'the <more> |
Witty, fun and imaginative. (by zampaz) |
"Sexy Evil Genius" is a Comedy/Drama with snappy dialog that moves quickly from scene to scene and keeps one guessing as to the what led up to the opening moments of the film. If you don't like movies that depend on dialog skip this one. It's a fun story and I was entertained throughout. There are some deeper elements to the plot; look for them. The acting was above average to my untrained eye. The directing and editing was well done and the cinematography/lighting were excellent. The audio mixing was clear, and the score a subtle character. I gave the film an 8/10 as it was <more> |
