As Strong As Steel-Steel Magnolias **** (by edwagreen) |
This is definitely an excellent film with Queen Latifah giving a superb performance as the strong-willed mother forced to come to grips with her daughter's decision to have a child, despite the fact that her health is failing and that such a pregnancy runs a very high risk of tragedy. This wonderful film is a story of social relations within the beauty parlor. There are tremendous performances as well by Felicia Rashad, wife of the late mayor, and Alfre Woodard, a town gossip. It is just wonderful to see these ladies interacting in better and tragic times. I wish that the part of Annelle <more> |
Loved It! (by happybwst) |
I loved itÂ… Had me crying & laughing! Wonderful movie, great strong actresses! I am a big Fan of Queen Latifah & Alfre Woodard! And, enjoy Phylicia Rashad & Jill Scott. I thought they portrayed their charters beautifully! And, the relationship between the women & the men was funny!I think too many people get caught up in it having to be THE 1989 version. I like that it was up to date for todays audience, because truthfully the 1989 version does not appeal or have relevance to 2012. I like the original, I am not a die hard fan that has to put it on whenever I see it, I liked <more> |
Good remake (by Jarsrever) |
I loved it wished it could of been longer though and had more ending like original. Queen Latiffa and cast did amazing so much like original cast loved loved loved. I loved they added parts too amazing remake. I was not sure if I would like it because its hard to top original movies but this did. I highly recommend this movie to everyone who loves the original. The acting was superb and so on. I accents were not so strong like in the original. It was easier to understand some parts. Great movie great actors great job lifetime. I hope to see more movies like this with good plots and good <more> |
Nice movie (by Dfamcomedy) |
I appreciate the fact that these actors And actresses stepped outside their comfort zone to remake this classic. I absolutely loved it. It really got me choked up. Men do cry when it's a good movie. Must see to appreciate. Queen Latifah is definitely that as she can play any role. Jill Scott is adorable and so full of life. These ladies definitely reached to this movie but it was amazing to see how major stars can come together and put on a fabulous movie. I can't stop crying. Wow I wish this could have came to theaters instead of just TV it's way to good for that. I can't say <more> |
Excellent but not quite as good as the original (by plutus1947) |
The choice of remaking this movie using predominantly black actors I feel was an excellent idea. The dialogue and scenes were almost identical to the 1989 original which does it great credit.I love Queen Latifah M'Lynn and Phylicia Rashad Clairee but even though they portrayed their parts with their customary excellence I could not help feeling that the original parts played by Sally Field and Olympia Dukakis were that little bit better The same applies to Julia Roberts portrayal of Shelby and Shirley MacLaine's Ouiser but that is to take nothing away from Condola Rashad Shelby <more> |
