Becca and Joey both deserve high points for this debut. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in a long time. The grandmother's revelations are a catalyst that shakes a family up, leaving them flailing for something solid to hold onto as the storm of shattered illusion flattens everything they once held as true. I thought it was genius. Jamie turns to the Catholic church where a too-young pre-ordained priest is too distracted by her sexuality to do anything but exacerbate the situation. Jamie's mother turns to booze, her father runs off to find long lost relatives--the family is <more>
ajar, but in the end, it's the strength of that very nuclear family that allows the experiences detailed herein to add richness and character to life instead of the destruction that could have resulted without a strong family to catch them. My hat's off--bravo.
This movie goes deep with amazing acting from Joey King (by tomtalbotty)
This is a really emotional movie as the Grandma revels news from her deathbed giving her clarity before she dies, nevertheless these hurtful news brings the family into a downward spiral. They screw up a lot and tires and anger is presented throughout the story, which makes no one actually sad to see her go as they are all angry with her even though she did not mean certain news in a hateful way even though it came across like that. If you are looking for a loving film that is funny comedic you have come to the wrong place, nevertheless if you are looking for a deep emotional reality film <more>
that is more like real life literally dropping a Bomb from her deathbed this is the film for you I highly recommend it as Joey King and the rest of the cast acting is amazing the crew did an amazing job too and it just shows just think about the consequences before you say anything hurtful to anyone.
If you were a teen in the 2000's, you'll probably like it... (by kgafner7)
I don't know why this film has such horrible reviews. I think it's a very relatable film. I watched the movie without looking at reviews prior to watching and I'm glad I did that otherwise I wouldn't have given the film the time of day. The film portrays a teen who doesn't know exactly what she wants in life or who she wants to be as a person. She struggles with controlling her emotions, and personal relationships while figuring out societal rules and how to be independent. I was 16 in 2006 and I acted very similar to the character, Jaime. Rebelling, using swear words, <more>
trying alcohol, being put in sexual situations, it's reminiscent of my teens. If I could NOT relate to the main character, I might think that the film is trashy, due to the language and sexual situations. However, I feel it did a great job at portraying how real teens behave.
Such black comedy movie also the name conflicts with the movie's events it was should be attractive name, this 16-year-old girl behaved spontaneously and did not know what she exactly wanted, but she discovered a lot of mysterious things in the other that you can say are stupid things because of that you push yourself into actions you do not want, and all that with black comedy which was pretty fun.
Thruths from the death bed. (by deloudelouvain)
I had a couple really good laughs with this movie, maybe it was the wacky tobacky, or maybe it was the couple of awkward but hilarious moments, but more probably it was a combination of both, but I had for sure fun watching Summer'03. It started like it was going to be one of those teenager highschool comedies but instead it was a comedy about all kind of day-to-day subjects. The cast was perfect for this movie, with a wonderful Joey King as the main character. She did a really good job as well as the rest of the cast. A movie I will watch again in the future, probably baked again as this <more>
This is a dark comedy film about a teenage girl's life; at last, it wasn't a waste of time watching it, and I actually liked the story and indeed liked Joey King, she seems like a sweet girl. Furthermore, it touched on the awkwardness of life especially for adolescents, because sometimes life is not as easy as pie it gets harder. Finally, I would like to say this movie is a worthwhile you won't regret it, you may check my rating and if you don't mind eight out of ten movies then yahoo-go and watch it.
