Fun ghost story in vein of Poltergeist (by Jaws_Incorporated)
I don't understand all the bad reviews so I decided to write one which i rarely do but this film deserves one. I think if you are looking for just a fun ghost story with creepy CG, good sound and some jumpy points, turn down the lights and rent this one. My wife and I loved it and we love paranormal, psych-thriller and the horror genre. If you are going to be picky and look for product placement and if it rips off other movies, then you are an idiot and shouldn't watch anything. This movie isn't for everyone but I almost didn't watch it because of all these review so i'm <more>
Brilliant film, tense, exciting - don't take the -ve reviews seriously (by hillshaw-1)
Don't know why some people didn't appreciate this film. The action, spooky effects, begin early and keep up right to the end - and do not miss the graphics at the end with the credits either. The film is like Paranormal Witness on steroids. And the weird post-industrial landscape with pylons and desert where the film is mainly set in just adds to the atmosphere. Definitely one to watch, especially in a dark room with just the telly on. What happens to the house, even the furniture, is just amazing. You've really got to watch what happens to the stair banisters and that sideboard <more>
towards the end, and before that the guy on the ceiling, well that was really tense too. And the bit where the camera is dragged towards the tent in the garden. Also when this woman ends up in a deserted DIY type store but there's just something not quite right about how the store looks, apart from being weirdly closed yet she got in there somehow. Any way as said above this film is just one scare after another and must be seen.
The Apparition...well worth the watch (by Elizabatnyc)
Most thrillers or horror movies offer the same premise and that is almost to be expected these days, that is until those rare offerings are delivered like The Apparition. I appreciate that it wasn't riddled with special effects which are often crammed in to confuse or misdirect viewers. In fact it depends on the viewer to watch the story unveil itself. The acting was very natural and I found the shots visually interesting especially during the closing credits. The score reminded me a little of Cliff Martinez Contagion, Traffic which I like and feel added something special to the mood of <more>
the film. I genuinely enjoyed it and encourage Thriller/Mystery goers to check out The Apparition. Enjoy!
Solid horror flick -- I don't understand the negativity (by DarnThatDreamX)
Lots of spoilers here! Do not read past the first paragraph if you have not seen it already. This is a great horror movie -- straightforward plot, eerie setting, realistic acting, creeping dread, originality, and some genuine scares. The setting itself has been described, by those who bothered, as a new housing development, which, while technically accurate, misses the main point that it is deserted because of the real estate bust, thus would likely remain empty for some years. The long drives past similar developments with power lines not yet fired up, made this for me a freaky <more>
setting.Dialog others report as tame and obvious, "Your house isn't haunted; you are", I found jarring. Real people are often in denial and I'd be denying the bejeebies out of THIS! The quickly escalating series of e-mail messages from Patrick was effective. And, while the thing in the laundry room was clearly inspired by the Korean Grudge series, it nonetheless got me to stop breathing for a time.A few negatives -- how does Patrick know so much? The science babble was too much. Clearly they did something that unleashed this thing, but they just as clearly had little understanding of what it was they had done. And the death of a pet almost always does me wrong. Just made me feel bad, not scared. At the end, a frightened, near catatonic Kelly meets her end -- unpleasantly.... and where will she go by the way? -- in a sporting goods store! I found this movie scary, appropriately read: well acted, with awesome settings that exist still in various parts of the country. I've happily watched it multiple times and will again. Great flick.
Truly Powerful Film Pushes the Limits of Horror (by jlthornb51)
One of the finest horror films produced in the last 25 years. With incredibly powerful imagery and superb direction, this is a fantastically visionary film of tremendous import. With performances of such excellence they demand to be viewed and cinematography of such stunning beauty that it pushes beyond the limits of any camera, this is one film that deserves to be widely seen. One can not help but be staggered by the screenplay, the implications of the story to humanity, and the overall artistry of this cinema presentation. Thanks to the Chiller Channel, these seldom seen masterpieces are <more>
being presented to awestruck viewers on a daily basis. At last, some of the most horrific motion pictures are being seen when before, one had to risk hard earned cash to view them. To see such overwhelmingly artistic films from imaginative directors is well worth Chiller's inclusion in any overpriced cable bill.
I was anxiously awaiting this title to come out on the theaters. It certainly did not disappoint. I am a fan of movies that have suspense and a hanging on the edge of your seat theme to them. From the moment this movie started, I was hooked. The acting was superb. It was nothing short of magnificent! Tom Felton, Sebastian Stan, and Ashley Greene are a huge credit to this film. A few times I thought I was going to jump right out of my seat. The actors made everything look so vivid and real.SPOILER ALERT: There is this one scene in particular where Greene's character is being suffocated by <more>
a bed sheet in a hotel where she and her boyfriend escape to try to get away from the Apparition. The scene was so real looking that you wanted to scream at the characters to get a pair of scissors to cut her loose. If you decide to buy this movie on DVD, you will not be disappointed!
This is a good simple ghost story that the teens can watch. The film starts out with a seance in 1973. It then abruptly switches to the present where a "scientific seance experiment" is going to be performed. The crew wires up their heads in order to intensify the energy field for the entity to pass through. Things don't go that well for Patrick Tom Felton, Draco from "Harry Potter" and his crew as something has happened. The film jumps again to Ben Sebastian Stan who was part of the experiment and Kelly Ashley Greene, Alice from "Twilight" one of the <more>
world's worse house sitters. Their house number is "2812" which flashes for a moment. It adds up to 13, although we really don't need a premonition of things to come. Like a good ghost story the odd events in the home build up slow until they reach a boiling point at which time my cat jumps on me.I enjoyed the build up. I also liked the way they integrated the "found footage" into the film and didn't rely strictly on it. Thank you Todd Lincoln. Ashley Kelly, who was allowed to act in "Twilight" gives us a good performance in this one in spite of Sebastian Stan being unconvincing in his part. As the lead actor in this film, his character was written rather shallow, which was the downfall of the film. I didn't like the repeated narration near the end of the film and the ending needed to be tweaked.Makes for a decent film for the sleepover, especially if they are sleeping outside in a tent.Parental Guide: No f-bombs, sex, or nudity. Ashley Greene in bra, panties and a shoulder up shower scene. Minor swearing.
