Wow! A Must See Movie But Have the Kleenex Ready at the Wonderful Ending! (by robert23-1) |
Although the movie portrays the pain, anxiety & frustration when dealing with depression, there are many scenes of caring, empathy & domestic love, especially between the dad so superbly played by J.K. Simmons, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner best known as the character Vern in the HBO prison drama OZ, the psychiatrist in Law & Order & of course as the spokesman for Farmers Insurance TV ads and one of the best young actors today in Hollywood, Josh Wiggins in the role of Wes. Not only are the performances of these two leads absolutely outstanding but the on screen chemistry <more> |
Excellent film capturing grief (by scherfcom) |
This is a very good film, one of the best I've seen in years. It really captured grief about losing a dear loved one. Not only is the husband grieving after losing his wife of 33 years, and it's very hard to let go of the memories, but also the son is grieving missing his mom a lot. Well written script and superb acting. In our home no eye stayed dry. We truly enjoyed this movie as it captured the emotion of the loss of a loved one so vividly. Great California Hwy 1 scenery and an early 70's Mustang convertible were a nice touch too. |
a great drama even for the squemish (by ops-52535) |
This was a wonderful film, its not going too deep, nor too high, its just a wellacted goodb filmed and produced romantic drama. its a mix of death, grieving, teens, love, kiss and in the end lots of happines. the choice of cast are great, and does their parts very well. the topic have been used and disused in 1000's of films,so hitting the bullseye are hard. this one is in the center,a 10 from me |
Heartfelt Triumph! (by horizonbts-206-628336) |
For me this movie hit close to home as my sister and I lost our mother suddenly, when we were young, and at a time we were expecting many more years of love! I am sure this is the case for many losing a parent can be a hard fact of life at any age. J.K. Simmons always seems to rise to the occasion of any role he plays. This one is no different as you feel like you experience the pain with him at moments in the movie. Great effects as just like in real life there are memories that trigger the hardship of losing a loved one, and it is sometimes hard to get your balance! I felt the story as a <more> |
Moving, beautifully acted, fabulous film (by robert-wood-1) |
A man's wife dies leaving him utterly empty and sturggling to stay in the family home. He and his son up sticks to move to a new school where the father teaches maths and the son studies.A story of grieving and how to move on, it is just beautifully acted and filmed with incredibly moving performances, especially from Josh Wiggins who really reminded me of Graham Phillips playing Zak Florrick. An almost perfect film. |
NOT a rom-com (by willowparr-1) |
Not sure why this is listed as a romantic comedy. Truth be told, it is neither. But it is a study in the effects of grief. A gut-wrenching story of emotional survival; tentative and tenuous relationships; self truths; and the desperate need to come out on the other side as unscathed as one can, in the face of bitter loss. |
This one had me at the mention of J.K. Simmons (by nowego) |
So far I haven't seen every J.K. Simmons movie, but I am getting there and this is one of the good ones. This is two love stories, a coming of age story and a story of grief all rolled into one. IMHO very well done, which makes this a really good movie to watch. It goes on the top of my re-watch list.Julie Delpy is supurb as J.K. Simmons love interest, Odeya Rush is outstanding as Josh Wiggins love interest and I just loved the 1973 Ford Mustang used for transport with the backward facing seat.I found this a very sad, but uplifting movie that really hooked me in. The characters felt very <more> |
It was definitely familiar, but still new (by stnikolovce) |
I just want to say that movies like The Bachelors are loved by everyone although not everyone will admit it. It makes you feel, things. It has the right sense of realism, coupled with love stories and just a feelgood factor. Maybe I'm a bit of a sucker for a happy end or some romantic twist, and this film delivers nevertheless. Maybe i like it so much because I'm in some similar phase, but nevertheless, it's worth giving it a go. |
