This is the wake up call cinema has needed (by james_depaolo)
Bunny Game is the injection film has needed for a long time to change what it puts out. Rodleen Getsic is the most important female actress in the last decade. This film is brave, no holds barred and challenges the viewer as to what it can take. Adam, paints a picture that some will say is far too real, well duh...this stuff happens everyday. This is that one of a kind, once in a lifetime film that you know you watched something special happen. I put Bunny as a character up there with Ripley from Aliens. Rodleen has just redefined female cinema. This is a must. Stop giving crap Hollywood <more>
films all your cash, support the little guys cause this film shows you. They are truly the original and true visionaries.
We can now close the books on the Torture Porn Genre (by info-323-995885)
Whew! Cross the Torture Porn genre with the Guinea Pig freak show series from Japan and you have The Bunny Game. The last word on this tired genre. It brings it to it's inevitable end. Well acted and beautifully shot. This is it. No reason to make anymore. It's good. It has all the shocks. No need to top it. This should be the last word.Hopefully I'll get a good nights sleep after watching this just on the comfort that we are finished with the sub genre. Let's cleanse ourselves. Oh crap, there is still that Nix guy making Human Centipede movies. Well, the ball is in his court <more>
now. The Bunny Game has set the bar about as far as it can go without being a snuff film viewed in a court room.
This is my 1st Review on here, i was asked by Adam himself to leave a review of his film on IMDb, and who am i to refuse the man who has made a truly amazing thought provoking film. Be aware, i will not give anything away about what the film shows. That is for those who have heard about the film to see with their own eyes. Might i add, this film is not going to be to every ones taste. Adam Rehmeier has made a film that will stick with you long after the credits have rolled. The Previous 75 minutes will leave you gasping for air as one scene of horror, is followed by another. That said, the <more>
film doesn't suffer from liters of blood, its a brutal film, the black and white cinematography is stunning but constantly helps the dark, and vile thoughts of what lays in the back of the protagonist's mind. The acting is impeccable considering the subject matter, and the music like all music in film should adds to the overall feel of the film. With The Bunny Game we have what i believe to be a daring piece of modern film making that will, i hope it will be followed by many extreme horror film fans if they're going to be lucky enough to get their hands on it. Banned in the UK, Sweden is about the only country with any release at this time on DVD.
sickening flick shot in art-house style (by trashgang)
I have seen a few sickening flicks so far, Human Centipede, the August Underground flicks, A Serbian Film, too many to mention. The next big thing would be The Bunny Game. But how far can you go to make it sicker than previous films?Adam Rehmeier, the director knew how to do it. Don't use effects, go for the real stuff. By doing so it will add to the uncomfortable feeling by watching it. He shot the whole thing in black and white and used an annoying score interfered with death metal. That alone will let people leave this flick for what it is. But by doing the real stuff you can't do <more>
things with the red stuff or it would become snuff.Adam knew that he had to add something special towards his horror and he did it not only by shooting in black and white but by giving it an art-house feeling due editing. It is heavily edited and again that will push 'normal' viewers away.Naturally you will have geeks who will watch it and I must say that indeed it all worked out very well. I admit that it maybe clocks in a bit too long but still it is an uneasy film to watch. From the first scene until the last it will get you by the throat and that's because it is a slow flick. Remember the rape scene in Irreversible, it took 9 minutes to sit through, here it takes much longer. The victim isn't raped but is humiliated in so many ways by cutting of her hair, by being leashed to go for a walk and it goes on and on. The story goes that the female actors agreed to get burned on screen by torturing. If you know that then it isn't one for the squeamish or the faint at heart. The performances are great and believable and indeed, Adam looked out for a face to be the torturer and he succeeded. There's as I said a lot of master and servant going on and naturally a lot of nudity but not one that is gratuitous, it do adds toward the decay of the victim. She's filmed stripped down to see her finally full frontal. I can't say that if you like Human Centipede or other flicks mentioned that you will like this sickening flick. It's out there and I wander if it will get the cult status as previous flicks did due the arty feeling. I liked it but you must be in the mood to watch it, it's pure visual and almost without talking. Sick and depraved. Maybe I can compare it with PIG made by Rozz Williams of Christian Death fame . Gore 2/5 Nudity 3/5 Effects 0/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5
The Bunny game, is a black and white film focused around the life of a cocaine addicted prostitute, who is abducted by a truck driver, degraded and tortured for a period of time in the desert.Usually with shock films you're presented with extreme blood and gore, however, The Bunny Game steers away from gore and leaves you with a masterpiece based solely on violence and sexual acts which will truly disturb the average human being. From the start, you're dropped into Bunny's world, the cruel life of a woman who turned to prostitution to feed her drug addiction. After viewing her life <more>
around dominant males, she meets Hog, an unknown truck driver who quickly takes advantage and kidnaps her, strips her and chains her to the inside of his truck. For the rest of the film you see Hog, torturing and humiliating her in extreme ways, from sexual acts, dragging her with a leash around a desert to branding. As far as story line goes, The Bunny Game is hugely lacking, it seems we are just dropped half way through the story. The first 15 minutes is about Bunny's sex infested drug life but it would of been better to see more of her past. Then you meet Hog, who is a complete stranger to us. We have no idea why he is doing this or whether he has done this in the past. However the lack of storyline between the characters makes it seem more believable as a story. You don't tend to know the other person's back-story so this gives it an element of realism. The movie aside, the special features is the most shocking thing, interviews with Jeff F. Renfro Hog and Rodleen Getsic Bunny we come to the truth about how they can pull off this element of torture with such a low budget. Well it turns out all the torture was real minus the drug and alcohol abuse . It was a huge shock to me to find out the there are actors out there willing to get their head shaved, be branded and suffocated for a film. Even Gregg Gilmore, who was originally going to play Hog, pulled out at the last minute as it was too dark and real for him to do.
Acting is terrific. The prostitute, Drettie Page, is quite committed to the role. I really thought the initial back story to her miserable life was very well done. Revolutionary in its raw imagery and the frantic editing works well with the desperation on screen. And the psycho truck driver actor was also very good. Chilling. And just a word about the music. Brilliant! Not a sound track you hum along to, its just this perpetual haunting soundscape that perfectly matches the horror we are watching. But I think many here got this movie wrong. It was a true horror film. Because it depicted <more>
something that any of us can envision happening in the world we live in. There is no happy ending. I'm curious exactly what that van was all about at the end that took away the prostitute. Did the trucker kill her and he was hired to dispose of bodies for him? Its not clear if he did actually go through with the kill. It was a flawed morality tale of the prostitutes life on a downward spiral where we can see that she hates what she does. But the fact that even though she is not held hostage by a pimp, she obviously chooses to continue on even after each successively more brutal encounter with johns. Its problem is for all the brilliance of the first half, there is not enough art house effects that can make up for some narrative. Any narrative. Maybe could have gone into flashbacks of the truckers life, other than his murders. To understand more where he came from. I don't know. I get that the director needed to stretch time out to mimic more the long awful hours this character also went through. the second half plot just could have been worked on a bit more.So a good attempt at something very dark, very frightening. For instance the shouting in her face suddenly, mocking her own screams, was revoltingly upsetting after all she had gone through already. A disturbing film that even if flawed, is an important one and worth a viewing.
