Any true Halloween fanatic will find enjoyment out of this film. (by ricky_lowry)
Halloween, a true time of mystical mayhem. The entire month of October is my favorite time of year. The smell of fresh fallen leaves, warm cider, carving pumpkins and all the sights and screams of Halloween. I have been searching for a film that captivates the spirit of Halloween and this one surely does. This film centers around Halloween attractions and it becomes a attraction in itself. Haunted House attractions are one of the best ways to celebrate Halloween. The hours leading up to the haunt, the drive to the haunt, and the time waiting line are all such a adrenaline rush. This film is <more>
all about haunted attractions and the idea that one haunt may turn real. The scares in this film are unique, disturbing and downright terrifying. It's original and the monsters are all brilliantly haunting. If you are a true Halloween fanatic, you can't help but find some enjoyment from this film. If you just like the normal, dull, repetitive Hollywood movies, this may not be for you. But for me, discovering this film was like finding a gem in a sea of sand. Happy Haunting!
Nothing is scarier then something that could happen. (by jnvrmind789)
Yes,The houses That October Built is another "found footage" film. Somehow these all get a bad wrap. It's just not always the case. Shooting from that perspective really draws you into this movie. The acting was good, the story was original and such a creepy concept overall.Anytime a horror movie can make you believe this could really happen,it's a winner. We watch these movies with the hope to get a little freaked out. This movie did that for me. Sure it's low budget but it's not low quality..and a whole helluva lot scarier then most horror flicks. Just to think how <more>
close this might be to reality should be enough to give you pause. I really enjoyed this movie. Give it a shot, I hope you enjoy it too.
Far better than expected found-footage effort (by kannibalcorpsegrinder)
Attempting to do a documentary, a film crew filming their experiences as they go looking for the most extreme haunted house in the country stumble upon the location of a real-life haunted house run by a group of deranged individuals looking to do more than play a friendly game with them. This here was an overall decent enough offering. One of the more enjoyable elements of this one is the initial setup featured here which has a lot of rather enjoyable elements featured within here. The fact that they're so intent on going through the different attractions throughout the country means this <more>
one has a lot of cheesy good fun with the group walking through the other attractions. Being found-footage means that the first-hand account of them walking in the dark with the different people dressed up as demons, evil clowns and other such characters gives this a deciedly creepy atmosphere as if it's being experienced first hand by the viewer which is plenty of fun. The second stop which is the interactive experience adds some incredibly fine action to the proceedings, and with the later encounter in the RV as they leave has a finely chilling atmosphere to the whole affair. The final few sessions, where they get into the last haunt and get into the confrontation with the demented persona from before it sets up the insanely creepy sequence of the group being secretly filmed by the lone member of the society which is one of the finest points of the film. As that turns into the group being unsure of whether the people they encounter are really demented or just playing a twisted and extreme version of the attractions they're looking for, the action picks up nicely withthe series of encounters being far more aggressive and hostile from the abductions at the festival as well as the bus ride out to the true location gives this a rather intense vibe as there's a real sense of everything being done for real instead of as a game which is a large part of the unease feltduring this part of the film. As that enhances the atmosphere of the situation even more during the terror-filled finale where they're forced through the remote house which straddles the line between what is real or not makes this section all the better. These here manage to hold this one up while it does have a few minor issues involved here. The biggest problem is the fact that this one tends to really build up an atmosphere about the supposedly legendary house they're going to that it doesn't have any hope of living up to it, leaving the ending as a real let-down. This one doesn't really stand-up to the buildup as it seems incredibly rushed with them going through in a rather short time that doesn't have the impact of the earlier haunts. Alongside plenty of useless inserts that don't do much and really could've been taken out to enhance the pacing, these here are what hold it back.Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Violence and Nudity.
A great horror flick to watch around Hallowe'en time for the creepy factor (by helenahartell)
I scored this high because it isn't like any movie I've seen before. Its not as much as scary as it is creepy, however. In my opinion, its a movie that plays more on an individuals phobias than anything else for that kind of fear factor. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil it for anyone - but you have to be into hand held camera movies like 'The Blair Witch Project' to enjoy it.I read through the negative 'don't waste your time' comments and came across a positive one which swayed it for me, I watched it and wasn't disappointed, so <more>
hopefully you won't be either. Its original, realistic, and if you get really into it, it will certainly creep you out.
One of the better horror flicks released this Halloween season. Had a very unique story line and was filmed in such a way with its cut scenes that at times you might get lost in it and think it to be a real documentary. The cast did a great job of acting and as a group of friends in the movie had plenty of moments of comic relief getting the viewer attached to them as the story progressed and built up to the climax. What really made this movie great in my opinion is that the haunts they visited are all real locations out in the middle of no where aside from the last one . The ending is fun <more>
and leaves the viewer with there own opinions of what just took place. I'm sure plenty will disagree, but for a movie that really had no publicity around where I live, I think if marketed right would have been a big hit as it had a similar feel to the first paranormal activity. I think now a days it is really tough to make a great horror film as so many people are desensitized, but this one really drags you in. I will be adding The Houses October Built to my collection of horror films.
I just watched this movie at night alone, and I was surprised! First of all, the title is very clever! just a little side-note I have read some bad things about it; people saying that it is a bad movie and that it is boring... IT WASN'T BORING AT ALL! I think that those people who does not like it, have a hard time dealing with new, original plots and stories. Because this is not the usual "people being chased by a killer at ONE place"-kind of thing, it is so much more than that. Or maybe they just doesn't like it...If any of you are considering watching this great movie, <more>
then go ahead. You won't be disappointed. This whole movie is one big, new "idea", because the main characters are being chased around by the "bad people" which of course isn't a new thing , but the way they are being chased in this one, is different. Mainly because they are not staying at one particular location. They are traveling around. The thing that really made me like this movie is the creepy scenes, where some creepy guy or girl is just standing somewhere in the dark, looking at you. It's the kind of creepiness that you get from movies like "The Strangers", "Insidious", "Sinister", "The Grudge" and so on. That exact creepy-factor is what I personally look for in a horror movie. If you think that it is just the typical stuff where a group of friends go from amusement park to amusement park trying a lot of non-scary haunted house attractions, you are wrong! These places they go to are underground places. Places you would not visit on a family trip. The haunted house attractions the try are actually scary on film in the movie . So don't judge this movie because of assumptions like this one. I actually made this exact assumption, but watched the movie anyway, and I was WRONG. There were many ways in which this movie could have been bad, and I think that the producers were walking a tight rope not to let this happen. In my opinion they safely crossed the rope to the other side.I have so much to say about this movie, but I think that I have to stop here...Should you watch it?Yes! You definitely should!
