If you want a great action movie with Clint Eastwood or Charlie Sheen, this is it. A little less graphic violence than your standard "Dirty Harry" movie, not as much comedy as "Hot Shots!", less dramatic acting than "In the Line of Fire" or "Wall Street", but this movie delivers on all three fronts. Car stunts and chase sequences are great. Only one thing about previous reviews disappointed me; all of them failed to mention the appearance of actress Roberta Vasquez, in the final scene, as Officer Heather Torres. Roberta Vasquez was Playboy's <more>
Playmate of the Month for November, 1984. She also served as a California State Police officer before the agency was absorbed into the California Highway Patrol . Roberta certainly knows how to fill out a uniform. I couldn't understand Charlie Sheen's reluctance to work with her; I'd take her as a partner anytime!
Always interesting to see the earlier work from some actors who have gotten really big.The writing was funny, the acting good, and the stunts excellent. Raul Julia was a great actor, as can be seen in this film. It's informative to see Sheen in one of many significant early roles. He did work with quite a few major actors/directors before 'Two and a Half men', didn't he? 'Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride'.'Engineered like no other'.'I WAS aiming at the knees'.People who don't like this movie have no sense of humor, and like <more>
A fun, funny and action-packed joy ride! (by Deltakit)
While this movie isn't Clint Eastwood's best as a director or actor, it is still a heck of a lot of fun. Charlie Sheen turns in a believable performance in a hard to believe role Rich boy turned tough cop , and Clint is at his best as the tough, seasoned chop shop cop. There is plenty of action especially Sheen's single-handed destruction of a biker's hangout and never really a dull moment. Although Raul Julia as a German, is really pushing the envelope of credibility. All in all a fun, funny and thrilling movie.
Not Too Bad (by dee.reid)
I stared at this movie on the shelf for about 4 weeks before I finally took a chance with it.Clint Eastwood who directed and starred in The Rookie, plays a cop who looses his partner one night on a bust. Eastwood, swearing revenge, goes after the killers. The next day, he is immediately partnered up with a young and upcoming rookie Charlie Sheen and together the two set out to find the killers. The killers, a sneaky group of car thieves, is headed by the late Raul Julia, who plays his role exceptionally well. Now the title of the film and the name of the director can be very misleading. <more>
The Rookie can lead you to expect something different from it, but it turns out to be typical buddy stuff. I think that Raul Julia is totally miscast as a the villain. It is kind of hard to imagine him as a German. Is The Rookie all bad? Naw. There are quite a few good and funny action scenes. The funniest being Charlie Sheen's second venture into a biker bar. Seeing him constantly yell, "Come on, Motherf**kers, come on!" is absolutely hilarious. Also, the scene where Charlie Sheen drives his motorcycle through the front door of his house to save his girlfriend from one of the bad guys is pretty good too.6/10
It's not Dirty Harry, but it's still fun! (by GOWBTW)
Another Eastwood movie is made and this this he plays another veteran cop who's not a rogue. "The Rookie" is played by bad boy Charlie Sheen. He brash, hot headed, and always a trouble maker, reminds me of "Dirty" Harry Callahan. He shoots up a bar, sets it on fire, and runs amok everywhere. Raul Julia and Sonia Braga play the killers. Julia plays Strom who kills Powell Hal Williams, "Private Benjamin", "227" and later kidnaps Pulovski Eastwood , where Liesl Braga tortures and later rapes him and films his rape on video. Bone chilling! Ackerman <more>
Sheen goes all the way to help his partner while others are trying to track him down. He sees the "porn" and Pulovski called him a "pervert" because that was him getting raped by Liesl. Then I liked the Mercedes escaping the explosion scene. What a ride! The airport scene was memorable. Each one of those goon took it to the head. with their own bullet. BANG! BANG! This movie was great, worth the watch worth the time, Eastwood always does a great job in anything he does. Rating 4 out of 5 stars.
One of the best car chases ever is in this movie. Also a terrific sex scene with Braga and Eastwood. No nudity, but extremely exciting. The cast was excellent as well with Clint Eastwood, Charlie Sheen, Sonia Braga, Raul Julia, and Lara Flynn Boyle. There are also some terrific fight scenes and lots of action. Classic Eastwood one-liners are present as well. Definately buy this one now that it's finally out on DVD.
Best action scene ever (by DaylightDemon)
I have only seen the second half of this movie on television yesterday. Never seen it before, although it was released in 1991. The scene in which Charlie Sheen sets fire to the Hells Angels Bar is brilliant. It really gets your adrenaline going. The best action scene ever. Another good one is Charlie driving through the door of his own house on a motorbike to save his girlfriend from a murderer. The end of the movie is is spectacular as well as humorous: the death of the bad guys and the final scene when a new rookie is introduced as partner of Sheen. Pity this movie is not available on DVD <more>
in Europe. I keep looking for it. Because I want to see it all.
This movie is much better than some people have been saying. Its not the greatest movie but who would think that. Its two cops running around shooting bad guys. The plot is weak but its entertaining. I say, if you like movies with gun fights and car chases, you should check this one out.
So, I hear they don't write interesting roles for women anymore these days? Maybe it's not patriarchy, but just a general lack of ideas. This film doesn't offer much - it's packed with action, but this one rape scene is a showstopper. Yes, it's a dominating woman, but not really PC. That's why I love it.
