Hooray for Helen Hunt (by jjcremin-1) |
Actually, it's very unlikely if "Then She Found Me" will take in the bucks that a new James Bond or Indiana Jones movie might do. But I just saw an advanced screening last night through Film Independent with Hunt present for q and a. I must say I was extremely satisfied. A chick flick this is, but it's a masterful one and I highly recommend it. Gestating for ten years, she took the plunge as co-producer, co-writer, played the lead character and made her directorial feature debut of this tale of broken trusts and betrayals.I will do my best not to reveal any spoilers as there <more> |
Blew Me Away (by meandor) |
It really did. There was such a depth of understanding. If that wasn't so rare, it would STILL be a great movie. But as it is, it is ONE TO WATCH.I really loved seeing Colin Firth have all the same humor of a slightly fairy tale version of an English man we have seen before.. but HERE it is grounded in a reality we can truly relate to - AND his humanity is palpable for the first time on-screen.Helen ROCKS in this. Period. The ending? I sincerely hope the filmmakers or some god forsaken producer/exec figures out what they have here and don't tack on that ending. It is unnecessary. It <more> |
I Loved This Movie (by terri2-1) |
I just attended a screening of Then She Found Me. The movie was fantastic in so many ways. Helen Hunt did a great job as the producer, director and actor. I love to laugh, and there were many funny moments in the movie. The casting really was superb. Helen cast the best actors for the roles and they were great. Colin Firth is always superb, in every movie he is in. In Then She Found Me, Colin was very funny, warm, dramatic and very REAL. Helen developed her characters and gave them the time to become REAL. Bette Midler was perfect for this role. I have not been a fan of hers, until now. She <more> |
Deliciously Human (by opiumeyedlove) |
This is perhaps the most deliciously human movie I've seen this year. It's messy unbearably so at times. The lives these people are living are hard to watch, but you can't look away.I'm a cinematography girl myself and this movie doesn't have stunning panoramic views or killer photography, but it does have great character development and a cohesive plot.Helen Hunt kills in the title role and as a director. She made me believe she was the woman not that she was acting to be this woman. There's a subtle difference.Colin Firth delivers as always and Bette Midler stuns. <more> |
A wonderfully moving picture. (by stammie) |
A wonderfully moving picture. Very real and certainly deserving of higher rating than depicted. The story is real, the acting is poignant and heartfelt. Hunt, Midler, Broderick & Firth are superb. I watched it two nights in a row. This movie is for everyone who knows what it's like to yearn for children and for everyone who has become a parent. As the events unfold, you become attached to the characters and feel for each individual one of them. There are no favorites here, as each actor holds your attention equally in their respective roles. Such a beautiful film. Congratulations go <more> |
You will find a lovely, humane film when you seek this one out! (by inkblot11) |
April Helen Hunt , a schoolteacher married to fellow instructor, Ben Matthew Broderick , wants to become a mother above everything else. As she was adopted by a Jewish family, with no knowledge of her parents, having a blood relative is extremely important to her. So, even though her overbearing mother is always suggesting she adopt a Chinese orphan girl, April resists the idea. But, wait. On the day April dons a negligee, under a trenchcoat, to further a romantic encounter with her husband, he drops a bomb. He is "not happy" with his present life and wants a change. Nevertheless, <more> |
a grounded in reality chick flick that is terrific (by soutexmex) |
This movie is not bad at all.I caught the first 10 minutes as I waiting for the film I came to see started. I was intrigued and came back the following week to see this little gem of a movie. With Colin Firth and Matthew Broderick playing against type, it was a relief not to see them so admirable in their roles. Yes, Bette Midler played the typical yenta shrew but hey, at least we see Bette. She's been away from the screen for far too long.I'll be the first to tell you I have never been a Helen Hunt fan at all. I have never even seen her hit t.v. series, Mad About You. Something about <more> |
Helen Hunt is "Mad About A Baby" (by screenwriter-14) |
It's been so long since the magic of Helen Hunt in MAD ABOUT YOU, that watching her in THEN SHE FOUND ME, which is a title that suits so many stories in this film, is a delight to see her intelligent comedic talents displayed again. From the opening scenes to the last heart warming one, Ms. Hunt brings a strength of character and intelligence to her attempts for finding happiness in her life. Wonderful scenes of New York and Brooklyn, with a cast that is superlative. Colin Firth and Bette Midler work their characters and stories with both humor, and a tinge of sorrow, with dramatic <more> |
Acting (by shayup) |
While I respect your review and opinion, I believe the actors did a marvelous job representing each perspective on the pregnancy/motherhood issue in this movie. Helen Hunt was marvelous as was Bette Midler as the estranged mother/daughter. Their scenes were real and touching without being sappy. Firth was also solid as Frank, showing hurt well without overdoing it. The final actor, Matthew Broderick, did an outstanding job with how the character was written. With all the other characters, there was the necessary background provided to explain why they were who they were. With Ben, there was <more> |
