Best movie I have seen in a long time (by imdb-21709)
In some senses Time Lapse is a movie about time travel and all the paradoxes that would come in tow, but really that is just the stage that is used for a movie that explores many aspects of human nature. Time Lapse gives its characters a tool that can fulfill all their desires, and then shows the addiction, greed, manipulation, and general moral decay that follows.Bradley King and BP Cooper did a stellar job with the writing. They waste no time in setting up the plot, immediately put you on the edge of your seat, and keep you there until the credits roll. All the actors turned in excellent <more>
performances despite the challenge of their characters being designed to remind you of the parts of yourself that you try to deny. This is not a story of heroes doing heroic things; it is a story of your awkward twenty-something self trying to find the guts to do the right thing. The cinematography is particularly incredible. The movie is confined to a single modest apartment complex, and yet somehow it is chillingly beautiful. I never thought a man looking at a bunch of Polaroids pinned to a wall would be the recipe for a spectacular shot, but somehow it is. I haven't seen a movie with this kind of creepy and eerie beauty since Jean- Pierre Jeunet's early films.Time lapse is the directorial debut for Bradley King, and yet you would never know it by watching the movie. If he can pull something like this off on his first try at a feature film, I cannot wait to see what comes next.
I saw Time Lapse at a film festival in Europe and I must say I was quite impressed. It was by far one of the best movies of the official selection.I don't want to repeat what other reviewers have already written, but I agree that the script, the cinematography, the acting especially Danielle Panabaker, very convincing as not-so-innocent Callie were all excellent. In fact way beyond what you'd usually expect these days from indie movies in genre festivals. For me, the fact that Time Lapse was a genre, time-travel movie was a plus because these movies, when they are well executed, can <more>
really have a lasting impact on their audience think about Primer or Los cronocrímenes . But while Time Lapse is one of the best movies in its genre better than Primer in my opinion, because less circumvoluted , it is also a deep reflection on both dark and sublime human desires and emotions: greed, lust, jealousy, friendship, love, art. In this sense the time-travel device an awesome steam punk camera used by the protagonists to see the future becomes a window into their souls.I warmly recommend Time Lapse. See it. You won't be disappointed.
This film is very well done and got me thinking about how time works, it also has lots of twists and turns and is a very exciting story. A great movie for a night in! The atmosphere was great throughout the whole movie and the characters were acted well by the actors, I was especially impressed by the actor who played 'Jasper'. Furthermore the idea was a very thought out one and i could find no-flaws in the time 'paradox' theories. It presented an interesting theory that time has already decided itself and it could not be changed. The ending was a surprise and a very good one. <more>
Lastly it had a very good setting and felt very realistic throughout the movie. At no time did i feel that the movie was getting silly and how i would never happen. I know time travel will probably never happen but the film really convinced me that it could happen while i was watching it.
It is very rare nowadays to find a real good Sci-Fi movie, especially when dealing with time paradox themes. Fortunately, "Time Lapse" is one of them.Being a fan of the genre, I really liked the story. It's intense, smart and coherent. The cast is perfect, and the tension built step by step by a subtle direction, grows into an hitchcockian atmosphere, while avoiding being pretentious.I also enjoyed the claustrophobic atmosphere, growing the tension between the characters, already very ambiguous toward each others in their unhealthy romantic love triangle, the evolution of which <more>
being very unexpected. Once they find a machine that produces a picture of the future 24 hours later , they are trapped in the time paradox, they have to commit to what the future is supposed to be, powerless in the face of what appears to be their fate, increasing their already existing paranoia, greediness and lust...What would you do with such a device ? Use it to earn money? To finally become the artist you want to be? Or to protect your secrets? You cannot escape the time paradox, but you can be smart about it... And that's what "Time Lapse" is.
I was lucky enough to catch a screening of Time Lapse recently, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really feels like you are going on this adventure with the characters. Each of the three main characters were played well. The writing was really well done, and I particularly enjoyed the character of Jasper. The whole movie felt more and more claustrophobic as it progressed, and the ending was just flawless. Time Lapse was definitely one of the most intense films I've watched recently and I found myself both eager to know the resolution and wanting the movie not to end. I highly recommend <more>
watching this when you get the chance, I can't wait to see it again.
Can't believe the few and yes there are only a few people that are saying that the positive reviews are all fake, rubbish the other positive reviews that I've read mirror my own thoughts about the film.If... to enjoy a movie you need visually stunning multi-million pound special effects, multiple exotic worldwide locations, 'A' list actors and actresses then I'm afraid this movie isn't for you. If however you enjoy a good thought provoking story, great acting and a satisfying climax then you'll love this. This is one of those few movies that sticks in your mind <more>
long after it has finished and warrants a discussion with the people you watched it with... this is the sort of movie I love, I'm actually considering re- watching it.
Very impressive small budget sci-fi thriller (by MattyGibbs)
Time lapse is an independent film about a group of friends who discover a camera that can take pictures of the future. It's a nice concept and is executed very well. This is only a small budget film with few special effects, instead it relies on a sharp script, good acting and an interesting story. It doesn't take long to set the scene and is always interesting. As things go from bad to worse for the three friends there are a number of tense scenes and some surprising plot turns. As the film is set in one location it really requires strong performances from the cast and thankfully all <more>
three leads excellent as are all the supporting cast. This is a clever, impressive and very entertaining film which really shows what can be done with a limited budget. This film deserves a much higher profile and I would expect it's current rating of 6.9 from 437 votes to increase over time. Highly recommended.
Tightly knit, well written, fast-paced thriller! (by dallasbagley)
I caught this film at the Seattle International Film Festival a couple weeks back. Film makers, as well as the cast were there, answered questions, pleasant experience over all.So here it is...We got 3 close friends, various character types, all sharing an apartment together. One of which is the property manager. Things happen regarding one of their tenants, provoking concern, and leading the manager to go check on this individual. Upon doing so, a massive contraption is discovered in this tenants apartment, radiating an ominous green light, with photos of the three main characters tacked <more>
about the wall.Upon brief research, they soon learn this to be a camera that takes pictures 24 hours in advance. Oh, and the camera is pointed directly at their living room. And with it being so massive and complex, they can't exactly bring it where ever they want. So it's in this living room, where they leave clues for their past selves.Obviously like most would , they use this invention for person gain. One of the three has more of a selfish intent, while the other two sort of superficially resist for a brief moment. It's from there that this close-quarters-adventure begins. Things get out of hand, characters change, we get a few laughs, jumps and an unforeseen reveal in the third act you probably won't see it coming .I personally thought the film to be brief, clean cut, tightly written and straight to the point. It's also in my opinion, highly marketable. The direction was concise, production was smart, and casting was thoughtful. Nothing about it felt pretentious in the least, and I'm thankful for that. I got a few minor nit picks, but I'm a critical prick, so don't be surprised. What makes the film good, far out weighs any minor short comings.See it.
A suspenseful sci-fi thriller worth watching (by veronica-sanchez-jones)
I recently screened Time Lapse and was pleasantly surprised by many aspects, including performance, direction, cinematography, and overall story. The wonderful performances of the three lead characters, Callie, Finn, and Jasper kept me invested in the story from beginning to end. Without giving away any of the story, witnessing both the slow and sudden transformations of each character were both entertaining and jarring as a viewer. In addition to the realistic portrayals on screen, I found the look and feel of the film to be particularly noteworthy. The director, and team, did a fine job in <more>
creating both tension and apprehension throughout the film by way of his shot selections as well as his set, sound, and art design choices; each which lent to the steady decline of the characters and their spiraling environment. Furthermore, the cinematography fantastically added to the suspenseful pace and mood in which the story unfolds by realistically portraying a normal everyday world made up of friendship and love that quickly transforms into one made up of antagonism, manipulation, and greed.Time Lapse is 104 minutes of suspenseful and thrilling entertainment. It is also a film you'll want to watch again. I know I will!
