Queen Latifah Needs To Stick To Acting And Forget About Music! (by leighabc123) |
This movie was great just like Barbershop. I still can't get over little Rudy from the Cosby Show all grown up in this movie! There were so many stereotypes in this movie. A white girl trying to act black. Black ghetto women gossiping. Kimora Lee Simmons cannot act. Alfre Woodard was much better in so many other movies. Golden Brooks play the same type of roles in everything she is in! I should have know that that crazy lady who ran in the shop after it was fixed up was the disc jockey. But I knew Gina was going to hook up with the piano player. There are still some questions that I hope <more> |

10/10 Great Movie (by hotcars1784) |
The movie is under rated on this site. It is a perfect feel good comedy that everyone will sure enjoy. It is a true good movie.Queen Latifah is one of the best actors out there in my book. She is just really funny and has a great perspective on the movies she does.I really hope to see another movie like this one with her in it.All the other actors in the movie were great, and I saw no flaws with them either.Shows that even racial aspects of society can be overcome. My Favorite part in the movie is at the end, when it is shown that everybody is together and the shop is working excellent despite <more> |
I liked it and for good reason despite some of the faults (by MovieCriticMarvelfan) |
Bille Woodruff's vehicle starring Queen Latifah is the same Latifah movie vehicle you see with the typical stereotypes, but overall I liked it, I got to admit.Gina is the hairstylist starting her own beauty shop, enter her racist and inept former boss, Jorge comes back to wreak havoc on Gina because he tried to steal her credit for her work. There's a nice storyline with Gina and her young daughter whose taking music lessons to get to a special school was lovely.Critics who panned this movie don't know anything I guess they're not expecting a multicultural audience to think <more> |
Why is it racist?????? (by NoximaJ) |
I think the movie is a great thing to watch if you are ever bored and feel like watching something funny for a change. About the whole racism thing... why is that even an issue? I do understand that the other black stylists were a bit harsh to Alicia Silverstone's character when she first arrived. But the fact that she's white has nothing to do with the hostility between them. I think you can relate to her because she represents anyone who has felt like they were out of place or not accepted in a new work force anywhere. Everybody has experienced going somewhere new and feeling like <more> |
worth the eight bucks (by shestarrrrr) |
This movie surprised me with it's cast. I had no idea HALF of the actors/actresses who were in it would be! It was fun seeing some of the well known and not-so-well-known-but-recognizable cast members play such different roles than we are used to seeing them in.There were some parts of the movie that slowly dragged a little bit, and I found some of the racist comments/jokes offensive and a bit irritating, but the meaningful moralistic messages that followed closely behind each distasteful joke made up for it. Let's face it; Sad, but true that there are people out there that really <more> |
Not a sequel (by sfriend-3) |
While it is a spin-off of Barber Shop, it is not a sequel. Feel-good movie that keeps you laughing. Good comedy that actually has a plot and story line. The advanced screening I saw was full of all types of people, and everyone was laughing at many points throughout the movie.Kevin Bacon, Alica Silverstone, Andy McDowell were strong supporting actors playing unpredictable roles - great casting. Some confusing parts about the relationship of the "mother-in-law and her daughter." Sometimes you think, who is she and how are they related again. But other than that... much enjoyment. |
Please See For Yourself! (by LadyJay99) |
I have seen quite a few negative reviews for this movie. I loved it and most people who attended the screening loved it as well. It was a comedy, pure and simple. Yes, there was a plot and it was decent, but the main draw was the laughs. I realize that there are people who will say that it is stereotypical and shallow. But, on the other hand, it was extremely entertaining. Moreover, it was excellent seeing a strong black woman determined to see her dreams come true. It was fabulous to see a woman willing to scrape and sacrifice to give her child the very best in life. It was refreshing to see <more> |
Delightfully funny movie (by hkfilms-1) |
Beauty Shop is a wholesome movie. It is a refreshing change from the negative portrayal of females seen in most movies today. Beauty Shop captures the true qualities of women striving, surviving, and winning against all odds. There wasn't a strong storyline, just a message of how women of all cultures deal with cheating husbands, cosmetic surgery, gender and racial profiling, insecurity, and male chauvinism. Still these women roll with the punches to enjoy each other and celebrate the beauty within. The underlining theme of the movie is Maya Angeleo's poem Phenomenal Woman, which can <more> |
