Julianne delivered an Oscar performance (by sharonscinta)
I saw Julianne Hough in Footloose and I wasn't very impressed. This movie changed my opinion of her acting skills. This movie just gave her the chance to show her talent. I don't think there is anything this woman cannot do. The part was not an easy one by any stretch of the imagination and Julianne nailed it. I don't recognize the male lead. I always give any movie five minutes to convince me to watch it. This movie had me from the beginning. It's more like a psychological thriller. I really don't think any other actress could have done any better than The performance was <more>
really fantastic and is worth of an Academy Award in my opinion. I really enjoyed this movie and hope you do to. I haven't heard of this movie before. I stumbled onto it on Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. No spoilers here, watch and enjoy!
A really good horror movie with quite a twist!!! (by eteridah1981)
It's a really good horror movie about a girl who is driving to get to her wedding, but she's in real doubt about if she's going to get married to the right person or not, so she goes on a bit of a detour, but as she picks up a hitchhiker, everything starts to get her out of hands!!!
Perfect for a Dark and Stormy NIght! (by anangkat)
After reading the previous reviews of "Curve" I wasn't sure what to expect. This film has a slow start, but just enjoy the beautiful cinematography because you will soon be catapulted into a true horror story. While driving off the beaten path by herself, gorgeous and recently engaged Mallory meets a sexy stranger. What starts off as a mildly flirtatious happenstance meeting turns into a horror story. The film cultivates a certain creepy intimacy that is palpable between the main characters. The movie has some very sexual dialogue and violent scenes. Probably not ideal for the <more>
15 and under crowd. A chilling film that is underrated and highly recommended!
Much better than you would ever imagine (by Robert_duder)
Now please don't misunderstand me here. Curve is not some masterpiece of film making. It is probably a good film at best. However, going into it, my expectations were very low. I even wondered if I would end up finishing the movie. I also admit my reasons for going into it were pretty shallow and that is my crush on Julianne Hough. She is lovely and adorable but just a terrible actress thus far. She tries but she just misses her mark every time. So I didn't expect much from this. Guess what? This is actually her best performance to date period. Also I scored this film an 8 because I <more>
thoroughly enjoyed it and was entertained AND its one of those almost "one-person" survival films think Brake or Buried or Freezer but this film has two main players one being a nut-job and a few supporting characters hardly seen. Most of this film rides on Hough surviving and she pulls it off. The story is good enough that you never get bored and you're on the edge of your seat and you're rooting for her. She actually may have herself a niche as a scream queen. She should explore this option more thoroughly. The film's pace is perfect because its incredibly short run time of about 1 hour and 17 minutes but it works for the movie. Its believable and actually pretty intense.I guess I already sort of covered Julianne Hough's performance but this is really good for her. She still has that mousy voice that really kind of makes a solid performance hard but she makes it work in this case and you do relate to her and she is a good strong hero. Her final scenes with the nut-job are really well done and you almost want to cheer out loud for her. Teddy Sears is remarkable as the disturbed and twisted Christian. He is literally near perfect in this role and maybe overplays it just a tad but it works for this movie. The only disappointment is we never really learn his motives or more about him which if this were a big budget horror flick we might assume they would serialize it but that isn't likely to happen so its more like he's underdeveloped than anything. Still, he is a terrific adversary and it works very well.I don't think it hurts that they got a director with some experience and some strong producers behind it as well. Iain Softley has had decent success in the past with films like Hackers and The Skeleton Key and he definitely has some style. I actually am surprised this film didn't get a wider release. I suppose you can't give a film too high a rating for being significantly better than you thought but I actually very much enjoyed it. It entertained me and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and had a couple of good twists and turns. Some of the sexual dialogue was very unnecessary and seemed to be there to throw the viewer off their comfort level but the rest of the film was decent to say the least. Not brilliant but definitely watchable and entertaining. I recommend it for a brainless thriller type evening. It won't be one that I will forget right away and that's definitely saying something for this genre, cast and film. 8/10
Simple movies are often the toughest to pull off. The "Keep it simple stupid" mantra doesn't really apply to film making. There have been some tremendous films over the years which could be considered simple in nature, but as a general rule they are few and far between. A recent example of a successful film like this was '127 Hours', and it's no coincidence that 'Curve' is very similar and also a very good movie. It takes a slightly more sinister and thrilling approach, yet a large portion of it remains almost exactly the same. The human will and desire to <more>
survive at all cost always makes for fascinating viewing, and this case is no exception. There's more to it than just that aspect of the film though. Teddy Sears plays the villain excellently and reminded me a lot of the killer from Dean Koontz book 'Intensity'. He had a fascinating mysteriousness surrounding him and some of the lines he speaks are clever and well written. Julianne Hough in the lead role is also excellent. With the amount of screen time she was always going to get it was crucial to find someone likable for the role and I think they cast her perfectly. She has no upcoming work scheduled in I notice, but surely it's just a matter of time before she signs on to something. She's a real talent, with the looks to match. I really enjoyed all aspects of the movie. There's something there for everyone and I think most will be surprised how entertained they find themselves.
