Plot: On the last day of 8th grade before their freshman year in high school, Julie has a slumber party with three best friends: Hannah, Yancy, and Farrah. As a trio, they end up having the adventure of their lives. To win the legendary high school lunch spot by the fountains, they must win a all-night scavenger hunt against their popular girl rivals. Unfortunately, Julie's mom has firm rules about the party. Her number one rule? Don't leave the house. But Julie and her friends won't let a little thing like parental authority stand in the way of social domination. To win the race, they sneak out of the house, steal a car, snatch a cute boy's boxer shorts, crash a high school dance, and torment a security guard with an inflated ego. And along the way, some of the girls might just find love. Because anything is possible at Julie's sleepover. Runtime: 89 mins Release Date: 08 Jul 2004
minor spoiler That movie was the best movie I have ever seen! It was cute and funny!! Alexa Vega did a perfect job on acting as Julie! She is the best actress in the universe!! I love her! My favorite part......the whole movie! I totally enjoyed the whole movie! If I had to pick one part, that would be the part where they are at that club and she is pretending to be a swimsuit model! That was funny! It was sorta sad at one point 'cause her best friend was moving and she was crying at one point. I was starting to get teary-eyed at the part and almost cried. Seriously! I love that movie! <more>
That was the best movie EVA!!!! I can't WAIT for the DVD to come out! I LUV SLEEPOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!My overall rating: 10++++++++++++++++++ and it goes on forever
Two teams of girls competing for a lunch spot (by La_Pirata_Loca)
I honestly think that this is a good movie. At first I thought it was weird because of the title and the plot summary but when I saw it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. It was also good because it give people a chance to see Alexa Vega as a normal person and not like Carmen Cortez in Spy Kids. Because of this movie she was offered more movies that saw her for who she was. Although it was a good movie I hated the plot. The idea of winning a lunch spot at the high that they were going isn't very strong. I think that they should have had something that normal teenagers do, like <more>
sneaking out of the house and going to another party or stealing the parents' car and driving out to someone else house and throw eggs at it. I also thought that it was dumb that the popular girls did hardly anything while Julie Alexa Vega went through a ton of obstacles. But I was very happy at the ending. Not because the movie ended but because everything fit so well. Julie and her friends not only win the lunch but Julie got her first kiss. It was also great because the dad had absolutely no clue of what was going on the entire time. The brother was nice enough help his sister out, even though it meant giving him her money. The thing that I liked the most was the characters. Yancy Kallie Flynn Childress was always a little glumly, thinking that she was fat. Hannah Mika Boorem was always encouraging to Julie. Farrah Scout Taylor Campton made her own clothes and always stood out with her reddish hair. And Julie, a girl who had always seen the dark part of every situation, began to learn that she can do anything. The Patrol Tech guy was the funniest of all. He tries so hard to catch these girls but always fails. He also says the funniest lines in the movie. Lines like "Why do people even have kids? Why?" to "I'm a Patrol Tech officer! I took a two week course!" prove that he is the reason why Sleepover is so funny. The movie is only funny with the Patrol Tech guy. Throughout this movie we learn that Hannah is moving away which causes Julie to be so glum. At the end of the film Julie is ready to start high school and is ready to face it without Hannah around. Brie Larson and Sara Paxton portray Liz and Stacie, the populars girls that Julie, Farrah, Yancy, and Hannah are against. They are determined to win but they lose which to them is like the world coming to an end. Stacie and Julie used to be best friends until Stacie got popular. Stacie and Liz and the reason why Yancy feels fat all the time. 'Spongebob' and his two friends are also involved in the hunt. They ,at first, come to Julie's house to crash the girls' all nighter. After covering up for them they notice the list, print it off, and join the girls. Spongebob dropped the list at a high school dance the task to getting the king or queen's was the only way to win which was picked up by the guy that later kissed Julie. At that time he was voted king and gave the crown t Julie, which of course stated that they won. Sleepover is the perfect movie for all girls who throw all nighters.
i have read some of your comments, and not one of them is good. Everyone is saying : "oh this is the worst movie" "it's so unreal" But hey, thats the whole point...it's a movie, nothing real is in a movie, they are there to entertain us!!! And this movie was a very great watch, it had comedy, romantic, action..and great family movie!!!! one of the best Kid movies i've seen in years!!!!! This was just a excellent movie!!!! The acting was a bit bad, but still interesting to watch. and the whole idea for this movie was great. a fun and funny movie that can be <more>
enjoyed by the whole family. I would say that YES you have to see this movie!!!! it's a must see for 2005!!!!!!
Pretty good if you like Cinderella Story (by ellentung)
I thought this movie would be a typical boy-getting story with two gangs who hate each other. I was half right - there was two gangs but there was only a bit about boys inside. It was really fun watching Alexa Vega on screen as a girly girl - she's quite pretty. The dares were hilarious and really original! The cop added an extra funny part as well. It was really sweet when Steve met Julie, but the movie was pretty predictable, and it was obvious Julie's gang would win. The part I didn't like was the part when Stacy danced with that skateboard guy. I thought Stacy should feel even <more>
more bad, yes, I like revenge. All over all, the movie was really good and really cool!
looked stupid, but really wasn't (by elementsk8ergrl08)
I went and saw this movie for free because I won ticket's to the Mall of America's "World's Largest Sleepover" I though the movie was going to be really stupid and not funny at all. But watching the movie I found myself laughing a ton and I ended up really liking the movie, and not just because Sean Faris was in it. My mom even thought it was a good movie. The jokes weren't real childish and were actually funny, and whoever wrote that last comment probably doesn't know how to have fun no offense to you . The acting was great, and Alexa Vega really showed that <more>
she can do more than kiddy action type movies. And Sean Faris really proves himself to be a great actor and I think he'll be the next Orlando Bloom or Ashton Kutcher. And like I said, the jokes were actually good in this movie. Which is why I gave Sleepover 8/10 stars.
A demographically targeted film that hits a home run (by Robert_duder)
Okay so obviously I am easily impressed by films and I have said a million times before that I am a sucker for cutesy, teen, Disney like flicks and this is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of the four girls who think their high school experience might not be so great. I think anyone who is or can remember being a teenager will love this movie because it covers all the insecurity of being a teenager but gives us the typical happy ending where everyone gets what they deserve. The film aims for a specific demographic in teen girls and it finds that demographic perfectly. Each <more>
character has their strengths and weaknesses and the lead character is a girl next door type with same dreams and aspirations that most teenage girls would have.Sleepover is the story of Julie Corky, a junior high student who is finally on her way to High School. On the night of the last day of school she has a sleepover at her house with her best friend in the whole world Hannah who is moving away during the summer. She also invites her friend Farrah, and her former best friend the very popular Stacie who declines the invite because she is going to a High School dance with her boyfriend. Since Stacie has dropped out, Julie invites Yancy. The four girls are having a great time, especially when Julie's mother goes out for the evening leaving them alone with their rather oblivious father and her slacker brother. Suddenly everything changes when Stacie's boyfriend dumps her and she walks into Julie's sleepover and challenges her to a scavenger hunt against her and her friends who are also having a sleepover the same night. They up the ante when they make a bet that the loser relinquishes the socially important lunch spot at the fountain in high school and everyone agrees. Such begins their night of sneaking out, paying Julie's brother to cover for them, sneaking into clubs to meet with blind dates, stealing Julie's crush's boxer shorts, taking a decal off a security car, driving around in a tiny electric green car, avoiding Julie's mother, and crashing the high school dance. Throughout the entire eventful evening the girls will learn a lot about themselves, their family, and each other and will create memories for a lifetime. The film is no award winning stand up and clap encore type movie. But it's not about that, it's about feeling good, getting even, being the bigger person and it's just a feel good, have fun kinda movie. And for being that it scores big because it's entertaining and fun. The cast is well put and lead actress Alexa Vega who plays Julie does a great job. She reminds me of a young Lindsay Lohan and should do well in the future although she has done well already for a young actress. Mika Boorem who has also starred in countless films for years as the little sister, or the supporting role also does a strong lead as Julie's best friend. Kallie Flynn Childress plays Yancy and her role is quite important because she represents the self conscious, defeated teenager that so many of us were. Sara Paxton as the stuck up snobby popular girl does a typical job. Her role is fairly easy because it has been done to death but she does it well. The adults in the film are comically played by Steve Carell as the bumbling security guard, Jane Lynch as Julie's Mom, and the always amusing Jeff Garlin as Julie's Dad. Everyone fits together and has a good time and it's even a little spicy at times maybe too much so for the real young crowd but for teenagers they will love it!! I would love to see a follow up to this film in their later years but I don't think everyone feels the same about the movie as I did. Nonetheless I think if you want a cute, fun movie, this is well worth it, check it out!! It's a definite new generation coming of age film. 9/10
So many movies nowadays either have young kids acting too old, or old people pretending to be young. Sleepover is just an above average teenie-bopper movie with some really fun moments and nice performances by a talented young cast. This target audience doesn't have a lot of movies to be proud of, but Sleepover can definitely be considered a fun one. All of the performances seemed on the money. Alex Vega Julie and Scout Taylor-Compton Farrah seemed to shine. There are a couple of very funny scenes from Steve Carell who plays an over-the-top security guard looking to break up the <more>
girl's fun. I commend director Joe Nussbaum for tackling a difficult genre and age group, and doing a commendable job with it. Don't rent it expecting anything deep, but it certainly is a good time.
It took me a long time to see this movie, but I finally did when my sister got it as a gift. Although the movie had its incredibly corny moments, and the plot was obviously written to entertain a preteen audience, I did find the movie enjoyable. There will be times during this movie when you will just have to laugh, and there will be times that you nod as you remember similar antics of your own. The characters are lovable and realistic, even if some of the messes they get into may not be. Granted, there will also be times when you just have to roll your eyes at the cheesiness. Overall, I <more>
found the movie very cute and very entertaining;just don't send your boys to watch it.
Julie Alexa Vega plans a Girls' Nite In and the plans completely change. Instead they go on a scavenger hunt around the town to win THE coveted lunch spot for next year, near the fountain. The opposing team includes Stacy, the most popular girl in school. Stacy will do anything to keep herself from sitting next to the dumpster. The scavenger hunt items include stealing a pair of hunk Steve's boxer shorts. But beware, Julie and her friends need to not have the parents find out or she is toast! Every girl can learn from this and plan an awesome sleep over. So kick back with some <more>
girlfriends and pig out. Do each other's toenails, hair and makeup. And don't forget the scavenger hunt!
