Frankly, I did not expect anything much, because newest horror films are not very impressive. What I personally look for in a horror film is an interesting story, good acting, a little visual effects and good directing. This movie has everything needed for the lovers of this genre. The film holds under pressure all the time, especially when viewed through the night. There are enough scary "jump out" scenes, not too many, which is good! The film has all the necessary elements that I mentioned, given the low budget. What does not impress me was the acting of Jim Parsons. I did not <more>
expect he is so bad at acting. And for the final, what is with the bad reviews? Did you guys actually watch the film or just vote low and write bad things for fun!? If you like films with good stories, watch!
I think there may be some sort of gender difference involved in most of the bad reviews here; especially those by critics. *side note: Females are irritatingly under- represented by the lack of female critics for this genre.😒* Anyhoo, I'm a woman that is pretty much obsessed with horror, thriller, and psychological films. My friends think I'm crazy because of my preference. My boyfriend can't sleep well and jumps😲 during movies that barely muster a flinch from me.😴 HOWEVER, I could barely handle the last fifteen minutes of this movie, my heart was pounding out of my <more>
chest😱. This movie hits you where it hurts, at your biggest vulnerability! You'll know what I mean after you've watched. The plot, though supernatural, is logical and believable at least for me. I began watching because I adore Jim Parsons😍, but by the end I was a huge fan of Isla Fisher 😃. Listen ladies, this is a great horror film without much gore and it's something you and your man can watch together. He may like this less than you, but only an egomaniac would complain about it in general!😉
Cool story and satisfying ending too!!! (by toni_treherne)
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie ... With a good cast and acting, not to mention a really cool yet pretty simple story to which I found had enough creep factor to freak me out and keep me intrigued and curious throughout the movie. The eerie vineyard location and with the couple expecting their first child after a traumatic year due to an unfortunate accident give the story great legs to start with no pun intended so already under stress that when certain events start to unveil its easy to attribute it to all of the above... the journey the you are taken on is great for the viewer. The <more>
ending did not disappoint, as I found it to be really good and I believe any audience will be truly satisfied, as was myself! In my opinion this thriller/horror ticks all the boxes... I would most definitely recommend watching this movie if you like this genre of movie!
A super great thriller /Horror that is utterly loud and enjoyable (by Dableo)
i do not wish to get into deep details of the movie because it is worth the enjoyable watch, but overall it is a very well written movie that goes unexpected i. A really GOOOOOD way. The overall concept starts as a horror with remarkable editing and the amazing sound effect of super silence to BooM which will freak you out even if you try not to,, after that it flows into a really interesting thriller that ends in a pretty satisfying manner, doesnot go crazy stupid or boring at the end , which for this genre is the best way to present a thriller&horror story. If you are a horror or <more>
thriller fan you will definitely love it. Wat to expect is ull be scared , entertained and get a compelling non nonsense set storyline. If you are a movie geek and super picky it will be a 7.5/10 movie I gave it a 9 because I genuinely enjoyed a thriller/horror which for a long time now everything being released was just boring. Go watch ull certainly not regret it. Highly recommended
This horror movie is set in a winery area and the atmosphere is suitably eerie. A couple move into a winery. The wife had a car accident the year before and now is pregnant. She starts seeing visions. At first it seems like there is some Rosemary's Baby thing going on but that isn't it. Also it seems there are a lot of red herrings and cheap shock tactics but be patient it all comes together in a logical way with a very clever twist that makes you think about horror movies in a different way. Just when you think you couldn't be surprised any more. I won't say what it is.When <more>
you have A list actors doing supporting roles you know it can't be a bad movie. Jim Parsons plays a doctor. He can do more dramatic roles he is quite good with just a change of expression. Eva Longoria looks pretty - wish she acted more often. Isla Fisher mostly know for comic roles is quite good as the scared pregnant wife who thinks she is losing her mind. It's rewarding when horror movies make "horror sense" - you feel watching it was worth your time.
Excellent writing, great acting and characters. Not so scary, but very well made! (by nitzanhavoc)
A loving couple moves to a small rural town after the wife is in a car crush, in order to start their life anew and await the birth of their first child. However, the pregnant wife begins experiencing visions/hallucinations, and fears their new house might be haunted with evil spirits! Sounds as corny and unoriginal as any of the hundreds of Ghost Stories out there using the same story frame, right? Well, stop right there and watch it anyway, because you're in for a treat! The story is actually original, innovative and impressively smart! The build up is immersive and suspenseful, leaving <more>
the audience on edge and constantly guessing and second guessing, while maintaining an eerie pace more suitable for Horror and less for psycho- thrillers. The characters are authentic and well thought of. I was specifically impressed with the female cast, Isla Fisher Eveleigh , Gillian Jacobs Sadie and Joanna Cassidy Helena . I also loved how the male characters were. Both Anson Mount David and Bryce Johnson Ben have a supportive role as the rock and back-up of their wives, the main characters, and they do so beautifully. Great acting and excellent direction work by Kevin Greutert. Most importantly, the twist and ending are surprising, satisfying and simply great! After so many anticlimactic endings, Visions is a shining example of how a plot twist and an ending should be. Screenwriters L.D. Guffigan and Lucas Sussman have shown us all that fine Horror writers are still out there! All in all, a fun and surprising film! Not as scary as Horror should be in my opinion, but an excellent film highly recommended!
Visions counts with an interesting premise which challenges our expectations as we get to know more details, making the "vindictive ghost" cliché take a different and meticulously planned perspective which keeps a narrative consistency from the beginning to the end. On the negative side, the "meth- heads" sub-plot feels a bit unnecessary, and there are two shocks which feel a bit out of place in the context of the film. Going back to the pros, Isla Fisher brings a very good performance in the leading role; it was pleasant to finally see her in a role which takes advantage <more>
of her talent, which had been wasted in many films. Besides, Fisher is well complemented by the competent performances in supporting characters by Anson Mount, John de Lancie, Gillian Jacobs and Joanna Cassidy. And then, we have the twist in the end, which I found unexpected and quite well implemented, without making any traps or violating the internal logic of the screenplay. In conclusion, Visions is a very competent horror film, and I recommend it with confidence.
